M'lore: 'Hinduism Only Religion that is Democratic' - Puthige Swami

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (NR)

Mangalore, Dec 27:  A warm civic welcome was extended by the citizens of the city to the Udupi Paryaya Sarvajna Peethadhipathi designate Sugunendratheertha Swamiji of Puthige Math at the T V Raman Pai convention centre here on Wednesday, December 26.

Accepting and acknowledging the felicitation given to him he said that when differences arise between parents, it is the children who try and intervene to solve it. So also if among gurus differences of opinion crops up, it is the duty of the devotees to address the problem and find an answer to the same, he declared.

In an elaborate and traditional procession the Swamiji was brought from the Sharavu Temple to the Ramana Pai Convention Centre where a ‘Tulabahara’ ceremony of Swamji was held using coins. With this ended the Swamiji's extensive two years of ‘vishwa sanchara’ undertaking ‘Sri Krishna Bhakti Prachar’ as part of a Paryaya.

According to the Swamiji he started his Vishwa Sanchara two years ago and travelled extensively in 80 cities of USA and 20 countries including Middle East countries, Jordon and Canada. He commenced touring India about 6 months ago and started Karnataka Sanchara two months ago, he informed.

Speaking about his foreign sojourns he said from these tours he could understand one fact very clearly that the culture and heritage of India is the best in the world, and it can never be beaten by other countries. He said that he undertook the foreign tours "to spread the gospel of Lord Krishna."

Moreover the Swamiji poignantly pointed out “The value of something is known only when one goes away from it. The value of Indian culture, tradition, values and heritage is known only when we go to other nations where people revere and respect us for our culture.”

With regard to the Hindu religion he said "Hinduism is the only religion which is democratic, as it gives its followers the freedom to think without restraint." According to him Hindu Dharma has the power to win the world. Therefore he exhorted Hindus to "spread the values of Hindu 'Tatva' to the world.

Further he informed that Lord Krishna in the Geetha never demanded from Arjuna to wage a war, instead he urged him to think and then take action of his own will. Although he had the power as a god to order his devotees, he never did so. "This is the freedom that Hinduism gives,” he said and  urged all Indians the need to showcase to the world the liberal mindset that Hindu culture stands for.

Sugunendra Tirtha Swamiji regarding his prayaya as a rightful one (‘Hakkina Paryaya’) informed that he has named his third Paryaya as ‘Vishwa Shanti Paryaya’. He promised that on ascending to Paryayapeetha, he would take up beautification of Udupi city along with construction of dining hall to ensure better Annadana in the Kshethra, Shree Krishna Nyayalaya and Vishwa Yathri Nivas.

His other plans includes a ‘Vajra ratha’ (diamond chariot) for Lord Balakrishna, ‘Vajra kavacha’ for Lord Mukhyaprana and Vishwaroopa Darshana. Former minister B Nagaraj Shetty and Karavali group of institutions managing director S Ganesh Rao were present.

What Udupi Paryaya Sarvajna Peethadhipathi designate Sugunendratheertha Swamiji of Puthige Math says sounds fantastic. However, why cannot he propound his thoughts to fascists and religious fanatics like Narendra Modi, murdereres of Sikhs, etc.?

I would also urge the same to leaders of all other religions, be it Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, etc. It is high time, leaders thought their followers that there is a Supreme Creator who has created everyone, whatever may be his religions and there are no different Gods for different religions.

If somebody thinks in those terms, then he is a fool. We should first learn to think of ourselves as Indians first and rest all is either immaterial or secondary and religion should be a personal affair and not meant for showcasing it.

Dear Puthige Swami, I totally disagree with your statement that Hinduism only religion that is democratic. Many Hindus do not welcome scheduled castes and tribes to mingle with them for any spiritual rituals as if they are not human beings. Don't you think your statement doesn't fit Hindu environment in India? Hindus call them untouchables and keep them miles away isn't this a big blow to democracy?

I also do agree with the comment which is given by Lancelot Norbert Tauro. It is true that Hinduism is spoiled by Fundamentalist Groups by attacking minorities. This is utter jealousy. No religion teaches violence. Let us hope these groups will learn through Puthige Swamiji and let minorities live in peace.

Dear Swamiji, Due respect our earnest request is to implement your democratic religious values of Hinduism into practice by admitting all our sub castes in temples and show brotherly attitudes to all including Christians, Sikhs and Muslims. From this day onwards, we will not hear any news of attack on minorities under Hindutva agenda.

Yes Dear Puthige Swamji, You have given beautiful words of Hindu Dharma and spread values of Hindu Tatva thru Good works, Charity with prayer and love. Its a great lesson to those who group damages values of Hinduism by attacking on innocent minorities properties. Should we learn Hindutva from these groups. The real meaning of Sarve Jana Sukhino Bhavntu should be explained to them.
