Mangaluru: Illegal sand extraction - six arrested, vehicles, boats seized

Mangaluru, Oct 12: On Tuesday October 11, policemen raided two spots and found that illegal sand extraction was under way. They arrested six persons and took into possession four trucks, three boats, and a backhoe.

The arrested persons were Ashok, John D'Souza, Wester Monteiro and Abdul Nasir from Kallapu, Joyson Monteiro from Deralakatte, and Sadiq from Manjeshwar. The accused were produced in the court, whereupon they were remanded to judicial custody.

Based on reliable information, policemen led by assistant commissioner of police, Shruti, had raided a spot at River Neetravati at Jappinamogaru where six were arrested, and two trucks and backhoe were confiscated. In the other raid by city crime brach police near Kulur bridge, two trucks and three boats were seized and handed over to Panambur police for investigation.
