Minister Resigns over Communal Riots in Orissa

IANS

Bhubaneswar, Dec 29: Orissa's Steel and Mines Minister Padmanabha Behera on Friday resigned owning "moral responsibility" for the communal violence in parts of the state, official sources said here.

Clashes between groups of Hindus and Christians since the eve of Christmas in Orissa's Kandhamal district and the police action that followed have left two people dead and dozens injured.

Meanwhile, curfew was relaxed in some parts of the district on Friday. The government has transferred the district magistrate and ordered a probe into the violence.
