Udupi: ICYM Pangala to host diocese level Konkani singing contest

Udupi, Oct 13: Here's an opportunity for aspiring Konkani singers to prove their talent on stage. Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) unit of St John the Evangelist Church, Pangala is all set to organize an Udupi diocesan-level inter-parish Konkani singing competition on October 30 from 2 pm at the Church hall.

ICYM Pangala unit has been organizing the competition since 13 years.

The competition will have two main categories, namely children and adults. The children's category is further subdivided into boys' solo, girls' solo and mixed group singing, while the adults' category will have men's solo, women's solo, mixed group as well as mixed duets.

Only one entry per parish is allowed for each sub-category, which means there can be a maximum of seven entries for the competition from one parish.

Judgment will be based on pitch and quality of the voice, rhythm, modulation, clarity of words and general presentation, said the organizers.

Every sub-category will have three prizes, making it 21 prizes in all. The top three teams with the highest wins will get cash prizes Rs 5,555 (winning team), Rs 4,444 (first runner-up) and Rs 3,333 (second runner-up) and shields.

The organizers have said that spot entries before the competition would be allowed if the relevant documents are produced.
