Mangaluru, Oct 13: An unidentified thief entered a jewellery shop at car street in the city on the night of Tuesday October 11 and made good his escape with gold and silver valuables roughly worth four lac rupees. The burglar who entered Vaishnavi Jewellers, sifted through the entire shop before getting access to some gold and silver ornaments.

The thief entered the shop by breaking open the door of a room attached to the jewellery shop in the rear side where goldsmiths work on ornaments, by using an axe. The CCTV camera installed inside the shop has clearly captured the image of the thief and his activities.

The theft came to light when the owner arrived at the shop on Wednesday morning. A complaint was thereafter made to Bunder police station. Police inspector, Shantaram, sub-inspector, Madan, and other personnel visited the spot, and collected details. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs too surveyed the spot.

The policemen say that the owners should have taken enough precautions to thwart thefts like installation of siren system. They said that repeated advisories sent to jewellery shops, finance firms, temples etc to install sirens have fallen on deaf ears most of the time, which has come as a boon for the thieves.
