Udupi, Oct 13: President of Udupi district Billava Yuva Vedike Pravin M Poojary held a press meet on Thursday, October 13 in relation to death of Chaithra and said that the death was mysterious.
Poojary said that there is strong suspicion that Chaithra’s lover Adarsh and his two friends, Pavan and Sagar provoked Chaithra to commit suicide. “Chaithra's father Chandrashekar lodged a complaint in Udupi town police station against these three men. However, there has been no progress in the investigation. Udupi Billava Yuva Vedike strongly condemns it,” he said.
“As per her birth certificate, Chaithra was born on October 8, 1998, implying she was a minor. The three suspects have applied for anticipatory bail and are likely to slip from the case. The post-mortem report of Chaithra has not yet come. It is still in FSL. Her father Chandrashekar reckons that Chaithra had applied for leave on September 28 to participate in a birthday party. She had later gone with Sagar and Pavan in a Swift car till Yermal, and then was dropped back in the evening at 4 pm." Poojary added.
"Adarsh is a resident of Doddanagudde and is known to Chaithra's father for the last seven months. He was aware of the Adarsh's and Chaithra's affection for each other but had objected to their marriage, as Chaithra was a minor. If Adarsh was her real love, he should have come for her funeral. Unseen hands are trying to close the case, terming it an unnatural death. We will be objecting to anticipatory bail. District Yuva Vedike urges that the investigations intensify. If not, various organisations will join hands to hold protests for the same,” he warned.
Vice president Diwaker, treasurer Kushal Poojary, Sharath Poojary and Shiva Palan Bengre were present at the news conference.
