Kundapur, Oct 14: Relating to a long-standing enmity over a piece of land, two groups fought with each other on Thursday October 13 night. In the fight, four persons, two each from both sides, including a lady municipal councillor suffered injuries. All the injured stand admitted into hospital.

The injured happen to be municipal councillor, Pushpa Shet, her brother Ashok Shet, and members of the other group, Laxmish Tantry and Yogeesh Poojary.

A new building titled 'Malavika' has been constructed by demolishing the erstwhile Geethanjali Talkies in the town. Owner of Jayalaxmi Textiles at Udyavar, Veerendra, and Laxmish Tantry had bought this land on partnership basis. A person named Ramesh Shet had approached the court, alleging that ownership of the said land is not backed by proper documents and that the concerned had encroached upon his land illegally.

The case is languishing in court. The two groups often were engaged in verbal duels, and quarrels, many a time even using obscene words. The issue came to a boil on Thursday. Yogeesh, Laxmish Tantry and Shreejan, it is said, had visited the jewellery shop being run by Ashok Shet, brother of Ramesh Shet, on Thursday evening with the stated purpose of buying gold. Shet told him that no trade could be conducted as he was about to close the shop. It is being claimed that the three, who introduced themselves as the residents of adjacent apartment complex, suddenly attacked Shet. When Shet's sister and municipal councillor, Pushpa Shet, came forward to defend her brother, she too was attacked, as per the allegations levelled by Ashok Shet and Pushpa, both of whom have got admitted into hospital.

Yogeesh and Laxmish Tantry too got admitted into another hospital. They alleged that Ramesh Shet, Ashok Shet and Krishna Shet have been digging the connecting road to their Malavika apartment complex, and when it was objected, they attacked had Yogeesh. They added that Pushpa, who came to the spot, also joined the above persons in attacking the others.

Both the legs of Ashok Shet have suffered serious injuries. Both the hands of Yogeesh have been injured. Two separate cases stand registered in the police station here about this fight. Local municipal president, Vasanti Sarang, and vice president, Rajesh Kaveri, have condemned the act of attacking a municipal councillor. They have termed the attack as a blot on democratic principles.

It is the current scenario everywhere in our country, wherein, Force is used upon the weaker section of the society, to get their wish materialised. The Assault on the person cited in the photo is fully condemned. The Offender, can approach the judiciary or the Police for immediate respite. Karnataka State DG of Police Sri Omprakash has stated in his message that Crime Prevention is priority. So the Police force if approached, will respond immediately as per his message, even if the matter is civil in nature. For law enforcement seperate division -The Police is always at service. Crimes of such nature sends terrorising message to the society. The Society as such should come forward fearlessly to prevent any occurance of crime of even trivial nature, for which they should seek the assistance of Police or Judiciary. Police cannot and will not refuse to act on intimation, and if they fail matter can be referred to their higher-ups. High handedness, lawlessness, disrespect to fellow humanbeing should not be encouraged by every member of the society. We are living in an era where in technological advances have made a big impact in every one's life. Finally, I call upon everyone to refrain from Assault, Injuring the other grievously and live in harmony. Money, Wealth, will remain here in this world. We all leave this world one or the other day and not even a piece cloth is draped on body at the end. So for more refer to Bhagawadgita. By Assault, insult, one cannot achieve his objective but to dig his own grave. If one is mentally satisfied by hurting, insulting, or assaulting the other, then he is not of sound mind and should check his mental status for for his mentally well being. The Offender should learn that, there are others depending on him for daily bread and butter, and such acts will deprive his own kith & kin of daily B&B, and hence he should refrain from repeating such acts upon insistence by his employer

Branches of the victims’ family fought for 35 years in the courts for their shares in the family property. In appeals to the Apex court, the suit was restored and the victims’ branch was appointed as the receiver. The builders firm (in which assaulter is a partner) reportedly bought this property and threatened the plaintiff against prosecuting the partition suit. Assaulters are threatening the victim’s family against pursuing the partition suit - lest the fraud becomes public. Thankfully, the police have taken them to a different court – Criminal Court. . Madam, this is not kindergarten kids playing but fraudsters, criminals and land mafia at work.

I learn that Shet's family had attacked a person named Raghuveer Nagarkar a few years back. He was the owner of the the property where Shets family resided. Finally Nagarkar had to sell the same to Shets family at a lower price.

Your reader is ignorant on facts. Shet's family did not assault Nagarkar. It was Shet's mother who was assaulted. Shets family purchased the property in 2004 at the then prevailing rates. There was a litigation that had gone up to the Apex court. Your reader is ignorant of the assistance rendered by the Shet family to the Nagarkar family.

Your reader GS has touched upon another subject - forcing people to sell their property cheap. This is done inter alia, by force or misrepresentation. It may come as a revelation to your reader to know that the builder has taken the shareholders of the company that owned the landmark GEETHANJALI talkies for a ride, by taking advantage of the ignorance of the company's Chairman leading him to believe that the property was litigated, can not be sold for a good price and offering to buy it cheap and offering to sort out the legal problems. Builders knew the litigation as can be seen from their impleadement in the Shet family partition suit OS 3/1999 that can be accessed from the court website.
The assault on Shet's family is to silence them from spilling the beans. It is also a continuation of efforts to threaten the family members by use of abusive language, stone pelting, threats, and assault and force them to sell their property cheap. These are the methods commonly used for "land grabbing". Some of the property of the family has been so grabbed.

This pertains to a fraud on the shareholders on the company which owned the Talkies to silence those who know the contours of the fraud.
