Bengaluru, Oct 13: Chairman of Karnataka legislative council and veteran BJP leader, D H Shankaramurthy, is likely to be made governor of either Tamil Nadu or Maharashtra shortly, it is gathered. The rumours about him being made the governor have been in circulation since about a year.

It is also being said that Vidyasagar Rao, governor of Maharashtra, who has been also functioning as in-charge governor of Tamil Nadu now, will be relieved of the charge of Tamil Nadu and Shankaramurthy would be replacing him. Although it was almost certain that Shankaramurthy would be made the governor, curiosity has been arisen as to which state he would be heading.

Rao has been functioning as adhoc governor of Tamil Nadu since September. The fact that Jayalalithaa has been unwell since some days has given rise to the need for the governor to take a more proactive role. Currently, Panneer Selvam has been functioning as shadow chief minister, having been vested with the departments Jayalalithaa was handling earlier. Because of these developments, the central government might feel the need to post a full time governor for Tamil Nadu, and Shankaramurthy is the automatic choice for this appointment, sources claim.
