Hassan: Spurned advances - man attempts to murder widow's son

Hassan, Oct 13: In an incident that has been reported with inordinate delay, a person, angered by the fact that a widow had refused to respond to his feeling of love, tried to kill her son. The murder attempt was made when the boy was travelling by train, it is said.

The boy stands admitted into a hospital at Manipal, and doctors have said that his condition is serious.

A person named Suresh was running a bar and restaurant at Belur in the district. He suddenly died about three years back. His widow, Shyla, had gone back to her parental home at Hassan where she lived with her son. A person named Chandru, who had begun to stay in a house opposite hers at Hassan since a year, began to pester her to marry him. Shyla, who was not agreeable, shifted her residence to escape from him, and started to live separately. Chandru, angered by her act, had threatened to kill her, it is learnt.

Recently, Rahul was travelling with his cousin, Utsav, to Shivamogga by train. It is said that Chandru clandestinely followed the duo from Hassan. When Rahul visited the toilet on the way, Chandru suddenly attacked and seriously injured him when trying no kill the boy, it is said. Chandru fled after this assault.

Rahul was provided initial treatment in a private hospital at Kadur and then taken to the hospital at Manipal. The accused has not been seen ever since and he has been evading arrest, it is gathered.
