Chamarajanagar, Oct 14: Two engineering college students, who were going to college in a car, died after their car plunged into Kabini right bank canal near Aldur in the district on Thursday, October 13. Another student, who was also with the ill-fated duo in the car, had a providential escape.

M H Darshan (21), a resident of Tilaknagar Mysuru and J Kartik (21) from Chamundi Hills, lost their lives in this tragic accident. S N Darshan, living at Hootagalli third phase in Vijayanagara, survived the accident. Reportedly, S N Darshan was at the wheels of the car that was said to be driven recklessly at great speed.

All the three were final year mechanical engineering degree students of Ekalavya Engineering College at Ummattur. Every day, they used to attend college from Mysuru by car and travelled via T Narasipur, Nanjangud, and Aldur Cross. The car was traversing the stretch between Aldur and Navilur where right bank canal is located near Santemarahalli. On Thursday, the car tumbled into the canal after jumping over its protective wall. While M H Darshan and J Kartik died on the spot, the other student who was driving the car, S N Darshan, succeeded in opening the car door and swimming to safety.  He is being treated in a hospital at T Narasipur.

After the news of the accident spread, staff and students of the said college, personnel of Kuderu police station and fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot. The fire brigade brought out the bodies of the deceased, which were stuck inside the car, with the help of locals.
