Mangaluru: Alva’s emerge winners in USPA organized Kar Kabaddi tourney

Mangaluru, Oct 14: Alva’s Moodbidri was awarded the Kar Kabaddi-2016 championship at the final match, after defeating the Belthangady Varun travels team at Gandhi Maidan, Karnad.

The Kabaddi event was organised by United Sports Patronage Association (USPA) with the support and guidance of Dakshina Kannada Amateur Kabaddi Association. It was inaugurated by the president of Mulky town panchayat Sunil Alva.


Belthangady Varun Travels team bagged runner-up position, Umesh Nagar Uduma won the third prize and S D M Ujire, came fourth.

Dhananjay from SDM Ujire team was hailed as an all-rounder. Rathan from the same team bagged best catcher title. Athik of Belthangady Varun Travels team was crowned the best rider. Vishwas from Alva’s Moodbidri, was acclaimed the best player of the Kabaddi tournament.

Sunil Alva awarded the winners with a cash prize and a permanent trophy. Riaz Omer, a businessman from Riyadh, presented runners up a prize with the trophy and cash prize. Other guests, who had presided over the valedictory occasion, distributed the prizes.

MLC Ivan D'Souza at the valedictory ceremony said, "Today the coastal game Kabaddi is getting wide recognition worldwide. I used play Kabaddi in the field during childhood, but now it has got green carpet treatment. People are showing more interest towards Kabaddi than cricket these days. It is really a great development.”

Abhayachandra Jain, MLA from Mulky-Moodbidri, appreciated the organisers for holding such an excellent tournament to promote the rural game. He assured his support and provision of government funds to the association.

State minister for food and public distribution U T Khader wished all the players and organisers well.

A colourful laser-light show was displayed by a famous team from Mumbai, arranged by Smile Media. Padubidri Kabeer Karnad welcomed all the guests who graced the programme.

RJ Anuragh hosted the valedictory programme. Dinakar Uppala and Razak Kanchinadka added more life to the match with their commentary. Nithin Mulky proposed vote of thanks.

President of Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress Mithun Rai, KPCC member Vasanth Barnad, Mulkiy town panchayat members B M Asif and Puttu Bava, town panchayat member Harsha Raj Shetty, Ashraf Karnire, chairman of National Gold Palace Thirthahalli - Abdul Kalam, president of Mulky block Congress Dhananjay Mattu, JDS Vice president Iqbal Ahmed , Minority wing Muneer Karnad, Kabaddi player Jagadish Kumble, Youth Congress president ofMulky Block Hakim Mulky, Rakesh Malli, president of Amateur Kabaddi Association and secretary Purushotham Poojary - and others were present.

United Sports members namely Kabeer Karnad, Nithin Mulky, Riaz Mulky, Shameer A H, Hussain Keri, Ashraf Pakshikere, Niyaz Mulky made this event possible.
