Mangaluru: St Aloysius College upgraded to 'Star Status', one among few in India

Mangaluru, Oct 14: The department of biotechnology (DBT), ministry of science and technology, government of India has upgraded the existing 'Star College' scheme of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru to the prestigious 'Star Status'.

Only Colleges with outstanding progress in science education are conferred with such status in promoting basic science education. According to the communication received from the department, it is mentioned that the committee appreciated the excellent progress made by the college. St Aloysius College was under the ‘Star College’ scheme for 5 years.



Under the 'Star Status' scheme, five science departments of the college will get Rs 19 lac each during the next 3 years as developmental and recurring expenditure grants.

St Aloysius College is one among only 17 colleges in India to get this status. In Karnataka, only two colleges including St Aloysius College have been conferred with this privilege.
