Mangaluru, Oct 14: "Developmental works in the district must be carried out at the earliest, and you should inform me if there is any issue in the discharge of these works,"district in-charge minister, B Ramanath Rai, directed various officials.

Rai was addressing the officials during the district progress review meeting held at DC office here on Friday, October 14.

Rai said, "All the formalities and approvals have been completed concerning the district complex. But as the National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued a stay order, the work cannot be started. It is a much-needed work, so it is imperative to follow up on this project and find a legal resort to this issue."

Swimming pool 

The sports and youth empowerment department officials briefed the minister on the progress of projects like international level swimming pool in the city. "The government has sanctioned Rs 5 crore for the swimming pool. To build an international level swimming pool, we require three pools, which will incur a cost of Rs 11 crore. DPR has already been prepared and needs to be sent to the government for approval." Rai said.

Rai directed the officials to take up the work of one pools in the beginning and rest two pools in the second phase. "Complete the formalities and start the work at the earliest." he directed.

The housing board official presented the DPR on Ambedkar Bhavan and said, "The Bhavan will have G2 floors with a library, hall, office, parking and other facilities. The total cost of the project will be Rs 12 crore.”
The minister directed them to start the first phase of the project since all approvals have been obtained.

Lady Goshen Hospital

Officials informed the minister about the status of Lady Goshen Hospital and said, "Out of the Rs 18.9 crore required, MRPL had agreed to pay Rs 8.9 crore. So there is a shortage of Rs 10 crore. We have Rs 5 crore left comprising of Rs 2 crore saved from the tender and Rs 3 crore unspent. We require an additional Rs 5 crore to complete the work." Minister asked the officials to undertake the essential works so that the new building can be put to public use. "As for the rest of the amount, we will talk to the concerned minister." he said.

Regarding Rangamandira and the cricket stadium in Bondel, he informed the officials that land had been allotted.

On being asked whether the Shiradi ghat will be closed for the second phase of work, Rai said, "It is a serious issue. We want to keep it open for small vehicles. We will convene a meeting and take a fitting decision.”

Houses in forest buffer zone

Informing about the new amendment passed in forest department, Rai said, "An order has been passed to provide a title deed to those who have built houses in the forest buffer zone. Previously there was a rule that no title deed would be given to those houses built within the limits of 100 metres beyond the forest area."

Deputy Commissioner Dr K J Jagadeesh directed the officials to submit the proposals for all the works which require approval from the government and send it to them at the earliest.
