Mangaluru, Oct 14: “Various religious programmes to abolish the curse on Koti-Chennayya's birthplace Pedamale will be held December 17 and 18. The consecration of Nagabrahmadevaru and other rituals will be conducted,” said Harikrishna Bantwal, the president of Koti Chennaya Janmasthana Sanchalana Samiti.

Addressing the media persons in city, he said, “The birthplace of Koti and Chennaya has been neglected for about 500 years. The fields in Gundaithimaru, Bakimarugadde and Anilaje Kambalagadde are now barren and efforts to cultivate these lands have gone futile. People believe that this is due to the unfulfilled promise made to?Koti Chennaya by Permal Ballala that a garadi will be built for Koti and Chennaya and Nemotsava will be offered to them after they leave to the heavenly abode.”

To make understand people about the need of religious programs, a meeting of Padumale villagers has been called at Sona Nemada Satyada Chavadi in Padumale on October 16 at 10 am in this regard.

There are around 26 places related to Koti Chennaya including Anilaje Kambalagadde, Shastana Vishnumurthy temple, Nagabrahmana Katte, Ullapura Diavasthana, Batheri Gudde, Brahmatheertha, Deyi Baidethi’s father’s house, Gundaithimaru field, 500 year old Padumale Masjid and Sayana Baidya’s house. The remains of the palace, stone balls which were used for playing, daiva gudi, dharmachavadi and other places can be seen.

“Vijay Kumar Sorake Puttur, Manoj Peralu, Badagannuru, Padmanabha Kotian Neermarga and Rohinath Paade are the vice presidents, Yogish Kumar is the general secretary, Sridhara Patla, Shekhara Naravi and Santhosh Kumar are the secretaries,” he said.

“The committee is ready to give cooperation to another committee which has been formed with the same objective of development of Padumale.”

“Padumale land is a varga land and the rights of the land are owned by film actor Vinod Alva’s wife. The actor has promised of handing over the land rights to Koti Chennaya Janmasthana Sanchalana Samiti and the process towards the same has already been initiated.”

“The state government has allocated a fund of Rs 2.5 crore in the budget for the development of the birthplace of Koti-Chennaya in Padumale and the works have been handed over to the Nirmiti Kendra. But, as religious programmes cannot be taken up by the state government, a temporary committee by name Koti Chennaya Janmasthana Sanchalana Samiti has been constituted,” said Koti Chennaya Janmasthana Sanchalana Samiti, Padumale, president Harikrishna Bantwal.
