Mangaluru, Oct 15: The police department has decided to register Suo moto case against Facebook (FB) for non-cooperation with investigation, after obtaining permission from the court. This action is contemplated because of the face that FB has continued to overlook notices served on it seeking information about those who had posted in its website insulting remarks about the presiding deity of Kateel Goddess Durgaparameshwari Temple.

City police commissioner, M Chandra Sekhar, stated that Facebook was served notices thrice seeking the above information but the social website has maintained stoic silence over the issue, and it has not responded to any of these notices.

He said that FB had failed to respond to notices served on it earlier too relating to a case registered in Kadri police station here, and once when Murugan was the city police commissioner. He stated that all these cases would be clubbed together before legally acting against Facebook for its non-cooperative attitude. "It has been over 45 days since the Facebook post which contained objectionable remarks about the Goddess appeared in FB on August 29. Notices served seeking information about those who posted the remarks under section 91 of Criminal Procedure Code have been overlooked. Therefore, we are going ahead and booking case under section 176 of Indian Penal Code," he explained.
