Mangaluru: City airport tops in passenger handling, customer satisfaction

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 15: The international airport here has been rated the best in southern region and won the third spot among all the 52 airports from across the country. The performances of all the airports are rated on the basis of overall customer satisfaction.

Airports Authority of India conducts survey of all the airports once in six months through external agency. In the latest survey pertaining to the half year ended December last year, the airport here secured 4.72 marks out of maximum of 5 points. Director of the airport, J T Radhakrishna, said that the rating reflects giant strides made by the airport in the segments of passenger handling and customer satisfaction.

In this survey, Chandigarh airport has been ranked first, followed by Raipur in second slot with the third place going jointly to Mangalore and Udaipur airports.

The survey covers areas like achievement of the airport, performance of the staff, facilities, customs and immigration facilities, safety etc.

I have found nothing wrong with this airport except for the road that leads to the airport. I have gone through the check points without any hassels. One advise to travellers. Pl do not carry lot of lugguage while travelling from your base location. That will solve 50% of your problems.

One of the worst airport ever seen. I want to share my experience as below.
    1. I had extra luggage of 2 kg which AI didn’t accept and they didn't allow me to return back although my parents were seeing it from outside. Guards are not at all cooperative instead they give rowdy look.
    2. Money Exchange near customs they just cheat people by giving lowest rate on exchange.
    3. Those who sit in immigration they always look us as if we are smugglers.
4 - They keep announcing but no one able to listen as the speaker quality and volume very poor. Instead of announcing through speaker those employees come and shout saying dubai dubai, muscat muscat flight is ready like conductor.
5 - 0% customer service and satisfaction and there is lot more to improve.

Please look into improving the quality of services and next time take survey or feedback directly from passenger and post it.

Just waiting to open new airport in Kannur.

Being a frequent user, I have noticed below problems in Mangalore International Airport.

    1. Other new International airports has a prayer room for Muslim passengers but this airport does not have one.

    2. Though It is recently constructed/upgraded to int’l airport, the building looks like very old. Maintenance/Cleaning not up to mark as an international airport.

    3. International Arrival queue heading to emigration is not organized well, especially when more than one flight landed and passengers rush at a time, it’s a real mess and no airport staff takes a look at the queue where first coming people are being left behind due to most passengers come front ignoring the queue.

    4. The area between emigration clearance and luggage clearance for international arrivals is very congested, after emigration clearance, once comedown by elevator or steps there is very less space before handbags screening, frisking and luggage area.

    5. Only one belt given for luggage of International arrivals looks like insufficient for passengers of one flight, but being served only one belt even when passengers of 2 or three flights waiting for luggage at a time.

    6. Trolleys are old and many of them not run properly.

    7. It is very unfortunate that this newly built airport not considered above basic things.

As the airport of my hometown, I would be proud of it if it is really got first place in the survey but here, I suspect the way how this survey was conducted.

Our Mangalore Airport is clean and green compared to many airports in india and world. But when will govt increase the runway length? when will other reputed airlines fly to mangalore? I think the people of kerala will over take and make Kannur airport grand before our runway extension project completes.

If this is true, How sad India's growth in the field airport and other sectors related to the air.

When a passenger enters there is no place to handle the luggage properly. Parking slot, picking up area all are a mess. If you push a trolley by mistake it will be in one kilometer. I am not blaming It is not to the standard to handle the traffic flow and safety of passenger as it is written in the article.

One must think about our countries standard.

Let us not belittle our airport. There are minor deficiencues. However, by and large, mlore airport is good and service is satisfactory. Having said this, my request to the cargo handlers is that please load the cargo quickly. No passenger wants to wait for the cargo. If this is done, mlore airport will be number one.

Baggage handling at arrivals is irresponsible. Any damage to baggage or content must be compensated for immediately. Every time I have come to mangalore I have seen damaged suitcase and bottles. duty free must issue receipts in paying currency. AT the exit there is lack of discipline. One can imagine the condition of lower ranked airports.

To be honest, couldn’t hold my laugh seeing the news!
First of all who were the respondents of this survey? M'lore Airport customers or someone else randomly contacted by the Agency out sourced by AAI? And can some define 'southern region'? Should we believe or assume that M'lore airport is better than B'lore, Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad!!?? :)

No doubt, overall there are lot of improvements comparing to old Bajpe Airport facilities & service. However, we are long way to go in terms of international standards. Unless otherwise decision makers think about 'customers convenience'(passengers in this case) while planning, ranking would look good only on the paper and show cases!

Need of the hour as of now is better entry & exit roads, bus & rail connectivity, customer friendly security, customs, & immigration staff, better departure & arrival gates, more & fast conveyor belts, quality restaurants are the few requirements coming in to my mind….

One of the worst airport in customer handling. The security staffs are very rude. I had travelled recently from the airport and there was water spilled everywhere in the departure area floor due to underground leakage. The toilets are not maintained properly. The connecting road to the airport is worst. Once kannur international airport starts operating then our mangalore airport will be more popular LOL
