Mangaluru, Oct 15: Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo along with Guruswamy of Ayyappa Seva Samiti, Kunhiraman and Mayor K Harinath laid the foundation stone for the concrete road and underground drain with footpath from Kottara Cross to Kottara Chowki here on Saturday, October 15.

The road between Kottara Cross to Kottara Chowki (behind Infosys) is being made into a concrete road at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore under Rs 100 crore grant of Karnataka government (third stage) and construction of underground drain with footpaths at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA J R Lobo said, “The city corporation has taken up this work of concreting this stretch of road and underground drain with footpath which is commendable. This would help commuters and reduce the congestion on the main roads. Contractor M G Hussein has taken up this work. I have directed him to complete the work at the earliest. Work is expected to be complete within next three months. A small stretch of 60 metres will remain which we can undertake under some other grants,”

Mangaluru city mayor Harinath said, “We have taken up the work of this stretch now and rest 60 meters will be also concretized at the earliest. This is a very important road for the city as it is one of major linking roads in city.”

Local corporator Rajneesh welcomed the gathering.

Corporators Shashidar Hegde, Kavitha Sanil, Appi, Lancelot Pinto and others were present.

Mr.Lobo instructed the contractor to complete the work at the earliest. What about the quality of the road? No compromise on quality. Many of the concrete roads getting damaging within one year of its construction in the city.
