Mangaluru: Avil Deepak D’Cruz chosen for Kalakar Puraskar

Mangaluru, Oct 15: Avil Deepak D’Cruz has been chosen for ‘12th Kalakar Puraskar’ instituted by Mandd Sobhann.

Mandd Sobhann core committee chose Avil Deepak D’Cruz for the award after considering many nominations and applications received for the same.

Avil Deepak D’Cruz is a young Konkani dancer and choreographer, who has been dancing and choreographing for Konkani performances of various Konkani artistes from the past 16 years. As the leader of the dance troupe 'Nach Sobhann', he has promoted various Konkani dance-forms – ‘Baila’, ‘Dekhnni’, ‘Manddo’, ‘Baila Dandia’. For his contribution in promoting Konkani dance forms, he has been chosen for the Kalakar Puraskar.

Kalakar Puraskar is awarded to deserving artistes, one every year, of Karnataka origin, chosen from the field of Konkani folk and performing arts.

The award instituted by Mandd Sobhann is sponsored by Carvalho Ghorannem. The award consists a cash amount of Rs. 25,000, a trophy and public honour.

The award ceremony will be held on November 6 at Kalaangann, at 6 pm. The ceremony will be followed by the 179th Monthly Theatre programme titled – ‘Mariolla’, a musical performance by Anil D’Sa Pangla. Entry is free.
