Udupi: 6 taken into custody on allegation of religious conversion

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Oct 17: In an incident which occurred at Manikallu Nailadi near Billady in the taluk on Sunday October 16, police personnel attached to Kota station took into custody six persons after receiving complaints that they were trying for religious conversion of local people.

Members of local Bhramari Yuvaka Mandal and Hindu Jagran Vedike alerted the policemen about alleged attempt by a group of people to convert locals into another religion. The group was on a door-to-door visit in an effort to woo the families into giving their nod for such a conversion, it was said.

Kota police went to the village and took the six persons into custody. Locals, who have condemned the effort made by the group for religious conversion, accused a local, identified as Manjunath Mogaveera, of supporting the group in this illegal act. A car and pamphlets allegedly containing materials seeking religious conversion were confiscated from the group.

The peole belonged to a religious group called Jehovah's  witness.

Kota police are investigating the matter. No case has been registered yet.

I do not see any wrong whether with jehovah witness or ISKON as long as they are preaching good and not hatred. It is upto individuals to decide what is good for them. why are we burning our ....wasting time there is so much of work to be done involve yourselves there instead of just sitting in your ac rooms and commenting."

I just cant understand how can one do forced conversion when the persons will?Must be a brain wash complete? As far as I know this and a religious Group called Scientology has a tight Programm .all are well trained and you dont see any wrong idea on their Expression.but once inside ,they are supposed to do this work ,bring gain in.volunteer?forget it ,many try to comeout but not possible, with telephone calls and threats ,follow.Books are a good income. Most important is this particular community doesnt accept blood when one Needs in emergency.but prayers are their important handwork. When a op.is needed, written Agreement is given before that NO BLOOD should be given to any time,.How many times we hear and seen children die due to lack of blood.in cancer etc.Thats the sad side of this organization. It is a tight organized religious sekt.

You had no problem as long as you received free education and cheap hospitals.
The trouble starts only when you realize that the one who converted will not vote your party any more..
    Any doubts on this?
RSS VHP or any monkey army is not bothered as long as your vote bank is not affected.
The moment you understand that the votes are dividing then you call it forcible conversion.

Indian constitution was put together by a committee comprised of very learned people at the time of Independence. One of them was Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, who himself was not happy with the discrimination hence migrated to Buddhism along with thousands of people of his community.

You could be right. The constitution needs to be amended to remove the discrimination Dr. Ambedkar had objections of.

    Shankar,

All these divisions and sects are created by different people (rebellions) from time to time against original faith.
Our faith and belief should be in God and not on different names and logics & philosophy created by different people.
I am dead against all such sects who try to influence people and they should be punished.
I am a victim of such conversion of belief in other sects of Christianity. (my own wife - now a believer)

There are few fanatics but that does not mean the entire lot is as bad as we assume. Let all of National loving people live united and with harmony. I had a friend who belonged to Jehova's witness group about fifteen years ago. I had opportunities to mingle with his friends too.
I really liked their openness in thinking unlike the orthodox Roman Catholics.
They are free to face and answer all questions on Bible and Jesus.

They have peaceful answers with proof on questions whether Jesus really walked on this planet. They are bold enough say the Resurrection is a part of belief or faith.
They are bold enough to say proofs are not enough to establish the bloodline of Jesus towards Rome.
In simple words they are firm on their faith on bible but do not get agitated when it is questioned unlike other sects.

What is your implication, Shankar ? Different denominations of Christianity have their own version of belief. Its how they were taught from their childhood. They don't go investigating the evidence for the belief that was taught to them by their parents.
As long as its peace and love-one -another, I don't think anybody should be offended by what is which group's theme. However, beyond all teachings, its the humanity that is most important.

If we find an injured person, we must have the heart to help him revive/recover than checking his religious affiliation.

What i wanted to implicate is one can be religious and be broadminded enough to accept the facts.

I believe in Lord Krishna, but i consider his lifting of Govardhana hill on his little finger , as a little masala added by Vedavyasa in his epic writing.

Hope you get what i tried to implicate... do not go on vandalizing theatres screening Da Vinci Code :)

There was vandalising against Da-Vinci Code so was there against PK. None of the two films made any difference to mine or your belief - did it ? That is because me and you don't differ much and people of our likeliness exist in India in abundance.

As such, whether Jehova's Witness or any other group comes, the damage done will be minuscule, so India will continue to be a home of all religions co-existing cordially.

Whatever they do is out of pure devotion and faith, without any kind of selfish motives, since they are not paid or earn any income for their voluntary services. They live low profile simple lives and freely mix with people of all faiths. In short they live with faith in God and love for fellow beings.

Is conversion so easy ? I am a RC and my son and wife belong to another denomination of Christianity. I have been trying to convert them to RC. However, the church is asking them to learn holy scriptures, prayers etc. etc. which may take months together. Then, how one can convert a person from another religion to Christianity overnight ? Is conversion means just wearing a cross, a thread or taking a dip in river ? Europeans comes to India and get married and convert in famous temples posing to camera and media covers it as a great achievement. A true conversion is conversion of heart, mind and soul. Other all conversion and ghar vaapsi is fake. One God, One soul and one earthly life. God bless us all. If this news is true, thanks to locals who informed police instead of taking law into their hand. I am totally against overnight conversions. It is fake.

Jehovah's Witness, like Adventists and Mormons, is a denomination of Christianity, who do not believe in Holy Trinity and Resurrection.
This group goes door to door and marketplaces and distribute their leaflets and magazines. You can see them distributing the magazines throughout the world. Their belief is so strong, even after they come from jail. they start the same thing again. RC has no connection with them.

Jehovah’s Witnesses headquarters is based in New York, USA. It’s not a cult as many think about it. It is a well organized religion. Their books and magazines are printed in over 100 languages. Members work voluntarily during their free time without taking any payment. It is the deep rooted faith that drives them to carry on with their voluntary services, each according to his/her ability. You may visit their website: www.jw.org.

One upon a time, simply by hearing what people say, I used to hate these Witnesses more than you do. You cannot know or understand anybody until and unless you get acquainted with them. Now I know them better since I have a good number of friends among them. In fact, my acquaintance with them has strengthened my faith in God. You cannot know them well just by looking at them or listening to what others say. If you are interested to know them better, then I advice you may contact them in the country where you live. Address is: Jehovas Zeugen, Am Steinfels 1, 65618 – Selters (Germany) / Tel.: 49-6483410. In India: No. 927/1, Adde Vishwanathapura, Rajanukunte, Bangalore -560064/ Tel.: 91-80-23092400. Dev,

Missionaries who wanted to convert people into Christianity, have done their job and left India. The present Indian missionaries work in the centres created by the foreigners and help the inmates but they don't indulge in conversion activities.

The group that is accused here, visits even Catholic, Protestant and other denominations of Christianity persuading them to join the new fraction. Their insisting does not limit to non-Christians alone. Imagine how much resistance the Christians must have not to get carried away ??

Definitely FIR must be filed if there is any evidence of forcible conversion. But the country’s constitution guarantees freedom to practice, preach and propagate the religion of one’s choice. Distributing brochures or pamphlets is part of preaching and propagating one’s faith. It’s up to the listener / reader to accept or reject what is being preached.

All God one? How can it be when there is only One God?

I have my identity and if you call me or describe me with false identity as a human I can't bear it, how do you expect God to bear when people portray Him wrongfully or describe Him wrongfully or create His images when He has not showed His face to any humans so far???

So there can be only one true path to find Him, worship Him and meet Him. So search the true path rather than going astray to wrong path.

God has provided us brain to think and understand and choose the true God, so no excuse tomorrow in front of Lord that saying we didn't get true information or true message to worship you or know you.

Utilise your time, open all Religious scripture and find the true God and choose the true Religion.

This Freedom is provided to every citizen of India to choose his or her faith. Atleast do this.
