Dubai, Dec 31: A man was yesterday sentenced to ten years in prison for stabbing his friend to death after accusing him of having an affair with his girlfriend.

The 25-year-old Filipino electrician was drinking alcohol at his home in the Muraqqabat area of Dubai last year with the victim when the deadly assault unfolded.

After the pair became involved in a heated argument, the killer punched his friend twice before pulling out a knife and stabbing him in the chest three times.

Police records showed that he confessed to being angry with his friend because he believed he was having an affair with his girlfriend. “He was annoying me and I had been trying to avoid him and not get involved in a fight.  I didn’t intend to kill him, I accidentally killed him,” he told police.

However, a Sudanese man who lived next door and heard the victim screaming for help said the killer told him: “I killed him because he is a stupid person.” The Filipino will be deported after serving his sentence.
