Kundapur, Oct 18: Four houses in Navunda village near Byndoor were visited by thieves on the night of Sunday October 16. The thieves gained access to many valuables in one of these houses, and returned with a booty of over Rs 7 lac.

All the four houses are located in an area lying behind government PU college at Navunda. The thieves entered these houses by breaking open the front doors. While they did not get anything worthwhile in the first three houses, their effort at last paid rich dividend when they entered the house of Abdul Abubakker.

The thieves who entered the house of Abubakker thoroughly searched the cupboard in the bedroom. They did not get anything there. As a last resort they searched below the bed, where gold ornaments were found to have been hidden. Abubakker said that over 30 sovereigns of gold ornaments hidden under the bed had been stolen.

Abubakker had been to the house of some relatives at Golvady on the afternoon of October 16. On returning home on Monday morning, he was horrified to find that thieves had targetted his house.

The other houses in the same area which were burgled belong to Mustafa, Ayyabbu, and Narayan Devadiga. However, the thieves had to return empty-handed from these houses, as their desperate search for valuables proved futile.

Police circle inspector, Raghava S Padil, Byndoor police sub-inspector, Jayant Anand Kaikini, sniffer dogs, finger print experts, and other personnel visited the village and gathered details. A case stands registered in Byndoor police station and the police have begun investigation.
