Bengaluru, Oct 18: Convicted notorious serial rapist B A Umesh alias Umesh Reddy) has approached the state High Court with an application to commute his death sentence to life imprisonment.

Reddy has cited the delay in replying to his mercy petition as the justification for his plea. He says the President of India took 2 years and 3 months to reply to his mercy petition.

Reddy in his writ petition to the High Court has contended that he has been behind bars for more than 18-and-a-half years, including 10 years of solitary confinement.

The court has said that it will take up the matter on Tuesday, October 18.

    Dear John,

Capitol Punishment was given to him and his mercy petition was pending with the President up until now.

Although, Capitol punishment may not be upheld in case of Insanity.

Eg: "In March 2014, Supreme Court of India commuted death sentence of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, convicted in a 1993 Delhi bombings case, to life imprisonment, both on the ground of unexplained/inordinate delay of eight years in disposal of mercy petition and on the ground of insanity/mental illness/schizophrenia"

Umesh may serve a prison sentence for life.

After SC verdict last resort is Presidential mercy but inordinate delay in getting his verdict can be a ground for such an appeal!!

Though I sound cruel, this is ideal punishment for a ed few to make them feel the pain of the victims.
Their victims had to suffer for no guilt of theirs.
