Mangaluru: Priority of ‘Udupi Chalo’ misplaced, Dalits need empowerment-Lolaksha

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Oct 18: “Priority of 'Udupi Chalo' convention is misplaced. Food has become the priority, where land, employment and empowerment had to take the first priority,” said Lolaksha, a social activist.

Addressing the media persons here at a press meet on Tuesday October 18, Lolaksha said, “‘Udupi Chalo’ was organized in Udupi a week ago where activist Jignesh Mevani had demanded that Udupi Math should stop the practice of ‘Pankti Bedha,’ and warned of a siege of the temple. In Karnataka state, food is not an issue for Dalits. Attacks on Dalits for food are very limited. The priority should have been about land, education, employment and empowerment of Dalits,”

“Pejawar Swamiji has given statement that he would sit on hunger strike and some of the so called Hindu Rakshaks have given statements that they would conduct cleanliness. The issue could have been solved mutually by holding discussions. But this way was not adopted by the Hindu outfits including the Swamiji. This clearly shows the hypocrisy of the so called outfits.” Lolaksha added.

“I urge both the sides; the Dalits organisations and leaders of Hindu outfits, not to mislead people and issue. Sense of hatred should not be created in the minds of Dalits. I feel that Hinduism is the most liberal religion, but due to some of the distorted minds terrorism will increase within the country.

“For me Pankti Bedha is not an issue. Make as many Panktis as you wish to, but it should not humiliate other sections. My only question to Pejawar Swamiji is that he is giving Vaishnava deekshe to the Dalits boys. Will these boys be qualified to sit with the orthodox Brahmins?” he questioned.

“My only fear is that my Dalit friends have posed a threat to infiltrate. It is not for us to infiltrate. The Dalit organization should pressurize the government to change this system since state has the right according to the article 25 (2) B of the constitution. With the issue of fake cow protectors, these anti-social elements have become powerful because of governments which have ruled us in the past 60 years, have failed to strengthen the constitutional bodies. Who brought the cow slaughter act of 1964? It was then Congress government but they have failed in implementing this act. Because of this these fake cow rakshaks have become powerful. This is the failure of the state government.” he continued.

“We need a harmonious society. So I urge both the sides not to divert the issue and to stick on to the main issues like land, education and empowerment of Dalits.” he concluded.

Reservations is punishment for us for our ancestors sins. Adopt Koraga's Dalits and change name to High cast Hindu name and distribute your ancestors property to converted Dalit & Koraga's as penance to the sins of our high cast ancestors.

Solution for all problems is to bring equality in our religion. Children of Dalit's should be adopted with heart, mind and equal wealth by Brahmins, Higher cast Hindus among us and Grate personality like Pejawar Swamiji, Convert all Dalit's Koraga's Kuruba's like me to Brahmins, powerful Ligayats and Vokaligas (Bunts). Unless we convert ourselves to One united Hinduism People of Christens and Muslims community may convert the poor among us by offering them basic needs like equality, food, housing and education. Let us pray that Lord Krishna may lead us to unity.

As long as reservation do exists, you will never come up to the level of Brahmins or any so called powerful like bunts, lingayats...

Reservation is a disease like drugs for anyone for that matter. Give reservation to Brahmins, within few years they too become waste bodies....

unnecessary issue created. misunderstanding created between daliths & others. instead of supporting the daliths, they tried to separate them from the general public. this is really painful. caste name misused for the benefit of few people.

Solution for all problems is good education and educated future generation. When people are well educated and settle well, society gives them respect irrespective of their caste and religion.
Fighting on street for rights will not fetch you anything, but only some politicians will get some votes.

one of the participant from gujarath was anty bjp, Dinesh Amin Mattu is a media advisor of our great CM. this itself clarify the agenda behind this meeting. don't misuse dalith people for your vote bank politics bcoz in udupi there is no such kind of food related issue & don't try to create that issue here. generally, in udupi there is no differentiation between the caste, it could be dalith or other. my request to the leader don't seperate the daliths from the general public by this kind of udupi chalo program. if you have any programm towards their economical benefit then please tell every one will support that. for your personal benefit don't misuse any caste name.

OK I completely agree for Dalits organization demanding for stopping ‘Pankthi Beda” etc..etc,, . But at the same time are they ready to giving away their SC/ST reservation quotas allotted everywhere.
There Should not be any Reservation, just because they born in some caste, Region and strictly not at all based on Gender Everyone should get what they deserve based on Merits and their efforts only. All are Born equal, and they have to earn their living out of their capacity, and Reservation for unfortunate handicap and Elders only.

in my experience, in udupi we could not find any differentiate between dalits & others. all are gathered in udupi Krishna math festival & all are free to enter the temple & there is no restriction. and all caste/religion people taking food in Krishna muth. but the issue is created by so called leaders without understanding the ground reality. we do not know what was their agenda but it is very clear that after this meeting the misunderstanding is created. who is responsible for this. simply issue was created for nothing.

Your advise is to whom ? Does any person from dalit and minority community will put tick mark in or himself as general category while filling Govt forms ?

First we have to remove Religion / cast column from each and every application from in this country. But will dalits agree for this ?

Never, if this happens, so called Dalit leaders and politicians who are eying on dalit vote bank will be out of business !!

So who is keeping these cast systems live ? and Who has to fight to abolish it ?

People have to fight for themselves. Politicians will never bring reforms for the fear of vote loss. Instead of abolishing reservation ther try to bring in reservation for every community. Best thing is bring in 100% reservation based on % population of each religion. oTHERWISE with brain drain country will not prosper as expected.
