Udupi, Oct 19: A daughter has miraculously remained alive sleeping beside the decomposed body of her father who had apparently got into a suicide pact five days ago.

The light in the house in Bailoor NGO colony was on for the last five days. The father and the daughter had not come out of the house. When locals, who grew suspicious with the stink, broke the door and entered the house, they found father and daughter lying on the floor. They thought both were dead. But later it was discovered that the daughter was alive.

The father is identified as Anantha Poojary (65) and the surviving daughter is
Vinutha (32).

Vishu Shetty from Ambalpady received information on Tuesday October 18 that both father and daughter have committed suicide. Shetty took district hospital’s Annappa along and went to the house of Anantha Poojary. They vomited being unable to bear the stink. Even after applying perfume, they could not bear it. The body of Anantha Poojary had decomposed and Vinutha was sleeping next to him as if dead. So they went forward to bring the bodies out and were surprised to notice that Vinutha was breathing. Therefore she was rushed to Manipal hospital for treatment.

Anantha Poojary was employed as a clerk in the forest department in Sullia and Puttur before retiring in Hassan. He later stayed in Bailoor NGO colony. His wife had died two years ago. Vinutha had divorced after getting married.

The real cause of Anantha Poojary’s death is not known. A post-mortem will reveal that fact. Vishu Shetty suspects that the daughter might have collapsed with shock after her father died. The question however remains as to why then the latch of the door was put.

The dead body of Anantha has been kept in district hospital morgue. Vinutha is recovering in the ICU of the hospital.
