Bhatkal: Argument leads to delay in Hazrat Nizamuddin Mangala Express

Bhatkal, Oct 19: An argument between the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and passenger delayed Hazrat Nizamuddin Mangala Express on Tuesday night of October 18 by few hours. The train was stopped in Udupi and Bhatkal stations by passengers and their supporters effectively delaying the train by more than two hours.

The passengers also lodged complaint against the TTE for misbehaviour.

As per details, a family of six people comprising three ladies, two children and one man were on their way to Bhatkal from Mangaluru by train. The family members without reservation tickets were seated in the sleeper compartment. When the TTE arrived, he came to know that they did not have tickets. He allegedly asked them to pay up a bribe of Rs 500 to continue sitting where they were, and they refused.

At the moment, the two ladies and children were asleep. The TTE began shouting, asking them to get out even as the train was in motion. He allegedly pushed one of the ladies. People in the train saw the incident and were upset over the behaviour of the supposedly intoxicated TTE, Thimmappa Gowda wearing badge no. 2946.

When the train halted in Udupi, people got down in protest over the alleged lewd behaviour of the TTE. The train stopped for nearly an hour at the Udupi station. Udupi RPF constable Pramod was present and took statements from different passengers regarding the incident. A case stands registered there.

After knowing about the incident through phone, a large number of people in Bhatkal came to the railway station and waited for the train to arrive. The Bhatkal police personnel who were made aware of the incident also rushed to the railway station.

Angry about the incident, locals demanded immediate arrest and strict action against the TTE. The local police and RPF tried to control the situation. The RPF inspector, Udupi, Shivaram G Rathod, who was present on the spot, assured the people that action will be taken against the particular TTE. A written complaint from the family members was also received.

The train which had reached Bhatkal at 11 pm could only leave at 12 am. Bhatkal CPI Suresh Naik, PSI Kunukunti, and others police officers were present.

I often travel in this train to Delhi. Every time I encounter such people with general ticket entering reserved coaches and pushing us aside. They say only next station but next station is 100 kms far !!! Bhatkalis have tendency of breaking rules. Sometimes squad comes and charges sleeper fare with penalty and ask them to adjust somewhere. When all seats are occupied, where they will adjust ?? Strict action is required by Railway department for the violations.

this is absurd , the first thing is they did not have proper tickets , no consideration should be given to any one without tickets . be it man or women every one should have proper tickets . This is pure intimidation of the TC by this family .

Travelling in reserved coaches without valid reservation ticket is an offence and ignorance of law cannot be an excuse. Minority and women do not have special privileges in this regard. Demand for bribe is an afterthought and cooked-up story. The allegation that TTE was inebriated was proved wrong after medical examination. Having done the mistake of boarding in a reserved coach, the traveler could have insisted for payment of extra-fare against challan or should have vacated from reserved coach. If bribes were demanded, it could have brought to appropriate authorities. Continuing the journey in reserved coach on the pretext/argument that seats are vacant and they are travelling with ladies and children is not admissible as per law. Quite often, these people form groups immediately using phone and social media and intimidate the other party, even if they themselves are on wrong side. It happens when road accident or minor altercation takes place. They show immense unity for wrong reasons. Here, there is a clear effort to intimidate the system as groups were formed in Udupi and Bhatkal stations. See the ladies in veils. We the people are not able to identify them, if the matter is drawn to court. We shall not succumb to pressure from these people. Face covering veils shall be banned in public places primarily because it takes away my civil right to identify with whom I am sharing a public place........!

As per the report the TTE has erred in two ways
    1. Asking for bribe and allowing the passengers to continue to travel in the sleeper coach
    2. When they did not oblige to give bribe becoming rude and disrespectful. These both actions are condemnable and the TTE should be taken into task for his unbecoming actions. Having said that I would like to focus on the ticketless travellers travelling in sleeper coach. What action will be taken against them? Often times the travelers travelling with reserved tickets are put into lots of inconveniences because they are accommodated by the TTE sometimes by paying for the seat as per the rules and often times by taking bribe.
I would say that both the parties need to be dealt with as per the rules and regulations of the Indian Railway Department.

Bringing religion in anything and everything, the people get marginalised and create a bad name for the entire society. The family's fault was traveling without valid ticket, but those interfered in the incidents are anti social elements, and should be booked for communal hatred.

Travelling without ticket causing nuisance to others itself is crime. Arrest all of them and put behind bars. Asking bride, pushing ladies are all constructed stories. How can the TT push the lady while they are sleeping. What nonsense is this. Country will move forward by the act and responsibility of citizens. PM can't do anything when we have more than 1Billion population.
Arrest the ticketless culprits and fine them heavily. TT was doing his job.

For short distance people doesn't do reservation in sleeper specially in day time as they travel just for an hour with a normal ticket.

This is most common in Kerala,Gujarat,MP,UP and Rajastan,

TTE should be punished with suitable act.

    1. Asking for bribe
    2. Pushing the lady

I agree - the above two are offences an officer on duty should not have indulged in.

Tell me - how correct is six people travelling without ticket ? Jaagir samjha hai kya ?

What a shame on people travelling in train without ticket ? If they had purchased the proper tickets, then this would not have happened. T T is doing his duty, if the party was traveling with proper ticket, then there was no scope at all for the TT to speak anything further. Asked for bribe and all can be constructed stories also ?
