Mangaluru: Polygamy allowed in Islam to keep away men from prostitutes-Kodijal

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Oct 20: Taking jibe on the BJP led central government at the centre, working president of district Congress committee Ibrahim Kodijal opposed the common civil code on which debate is going on in the nation. He also spoke about why polygamy is allowed in Islam while speaking against Uniform Civil Code.

Black money promise

Addressing a press meet here at DCC office here on Thursday, October 20, Kodijal said "Prime ministers of this nation from Jawaharlal Nehru to Manmohan Singh did what they said. But the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not kept his promises made prior to the elections. He said he would get back the black money and would deposit Rs 15 lac in each in every citizen’s account.  But not a single rupee has been brought back.”

Harmony in society

"He promised of a harmonious and peaceful society. But today Dalits and Muslims are being targeted. For Swachh Bharath drive, they have spent crores of rupees for advertisement. The nation can be clean when his heart is clean. By advertisements alone the nation cannot become clean. The centre has also should allot funds in the budget and give it to the states." Kodijal added.

Polygamy in Islam

"Now on the issue of triple talaq (divorce) the central government has given an affidavit to the Supreme Court. According to the shariyat, a person can have more than one wives provided he is the financially strong to look after all of them equally.  Islam strongly opposes prostitution and in order to prevent men from going to prostitutes when wife is unable to fulfil sexual needs, it allows polygamy." he said.

"The constitution has given freedom to follow their respective religion and the Modi government is unnecessarily involving in curtailing the freedom of one particular religion. We all came to know that Modi had a wife only after he became the prime minister. How well he has looked after his wife?” he questioned.

Achche Din

"Now Modi should stop making false promises and get active in implementing schemes for the poor and underprivileged in the society. During UPA’s rule the poor farmers, Dalits, minorities and underprivileged had Achche Din (Good days). But now the Ambanis, Adanis and foreign companies are enjoying Achche Din under Modi's rule."  Kodijal continued.

Cauvery

"According to the constitution whenever there is dispute between two states relating to land and water, the central government should interfere. So Modi should interfere and solve the Cauvery issue. We all want peaceful solution. So I urge the prime minister not to indulge in unnecessary issues and work more for the betterment of the people of this nation." he concluded.

Congress leaders T K Sudhir, Ramananda and others were present.

One man was travelling with 3 wives and 2 children from Mangalore to bhatkal without any tickets in sleeper coach.
No money to buy tickets no money to pay fines.
Then how how do they give medical requirements of wives, children?
    How do they give education?
How do they give food 3 time a day?

Look at the way this national party taking the advantage of minority community. A person without winning an election, is allowed to give his ideas about a religion as a party policy. The next he does best is to criticise the prime minister of the country with his personal matters. How many times this kodijal is married, any disclosures. A request to the Congress party workers: please don't give such statement, which cannot get you some respect and few votes. Minority votes are in high demand and you are trying to lose the 50% votes of 14% of the population.

This revolution for gender equality happened in America too but the women stood up unitedly. Now it is the turn of Muslim women to stand up for their rights in India too. I dont understand this uneducated statement that polygamy is to keep men away from prostitutes but on the other hand if a women indulges in polygamy she is labelled as a prostitute herself. This is opressive and uneducated behaviour. All the vote bank political parties including the responsible national party the Congress is naking a mockery of our constitution by supporting this and not allowing the community to progress.

Never make a historical necessity ( polygamy) to justify lack of control and discipline.

The same also is applicable to those rigid laws( twisted to suit the few).

There is no justification for them ( polygamy or other laws that prevent the true meaning of religion).

Polygamy should be punishable by law of the land.It has no place in modern society.

    MR Vantage,
If Polygamy is rampant among Hindus as you allege, nothing stops the aggrieved Hindu woman to take legal recourse and get relief. The same right is not given to the muslim woman. The personal laws interfere with their rights. The hindus have not demanded that a similar law of muslims be granted to them so that they can practise polygamy. Why should a Shah Bano be left high & dry? remember the case is filed by aggrived muslim women and not BJP.

.What I mean to say is even if law bans polygamy people will follow it...It is not allegation its fact...as you claim people taking second wife then Hindu women can take legal recourse ...most of the time it doesn't happen...it is case of secret marrying...coz law doesn't allow...so most of the time the women looses much of her rights including property share and recognition from husbands family member....I can understand your concern for Banu...She is married and divorced..What about same concern for Yashodaben ...wife of our P.M ...Neither proper married life nor divorce...What is that which keeps you silent on Yashoda Ben which allows you to shed crocodile tears on Banu....??

    Mr vantage,
Wether it is yashoda ben or shah bano. it is their right to take the case to courts. Mrs Bano has taken the matter to court and yet not got the Justice. If the laws are weak, your demand should have been to strengthen it rather than hide behind it and say why have a law itself. Recently a group of Hidu women have fought for their right to pray in temples and they got a favourable judgement in court. except for small protests everything died down. We have stepped to a new era unlike the past where people have more knowledge of their rights. Therefore there should be a enabling law too. if more hindus are prosecuted in future for Polygamy so be it. who complains.

"Islam strongly opposes prostitution and in order to prevent men from going to prostitutes when wife is unable to fulfil sexual needs, it allows polygamy."

Majority women are made to fulfill man's sexual needs. If not, why to marry her in the first place. However, women are not made for sexual fantasies of men. If she does not fulfill sexual needs, divorce her and remarry another but don't keep her on the side and marry 3 more. Allow the women to work so that they will not go into prostitution.
We live in a democratic country where all are equal by rights. Therefore, UCC is the need of the hour.

I don't mind if UCC allow everyone to have 4 wives, but it has to be equal for all citizens irrespective of one's traditional belief.

UCC - minimum age for voting, driving, for marriage etc., then why cant government order compulsory marriage registration with at least 3 witness one each from both sides and 3rd one from both the families known person. Better in future nullify (no legal authority or rights) all religious marriages (which ifyou want can do it any time for your satisfaction). Also one can marry maximum two times irrespective of divorces etc., it should be for everybody. This will bring equality in all religion and also check on population and extra marital affairs. Any thing else should considered as illegal and crime. We can't use religious options for our greed.

Among politicians there are two kinds: the ‘Chinna Veedu’ kind who maintain two or more households in parallel and the second kind who when the second 'household' demands undivided attention, choose to silence the original ‘household’ for good. If you go through the survey you can find more divorce and more than one wife in other religions. The government really concern about the Muslim women's welfare they can empower Muslim women educationally, economically without discrimination. Islam says, if cannot treat your wives JUSTLY, then you should marry ONLY ONE. Islam allows polygamy only if a person is physically and financially sound to take care of more than one wives. Since the law prevents Hindus from marrying more than one, it is observed that the people go for second wife secretly hence the second wife doesn’t have any legal right in husband’s property.

I agree with polygamy as religious principle, but who are following the rules of polygamy, if one has married more than one he should be able to look after them well and without any discrimination. In our society majority of the people who practice polygamy are known for some thing bad as they discriminate among wives without having sufficient capacity to look after them, instead marry for some benefits from the girls like money gold and wealth. Most of the people who are not having one wife not going to prostitutes or illegal relations. If one has two or three wives he is seen with second thinking for any dealing in our society as majority do not follow religious principles but marry for material gains.

    @SKM
Marrying for the sake of money, gold etc also does happen with a single marriage concept, not only in Polygamy like u mentioned.

A person marries for greed then divorce her and then remarries another etc this continues.

So dont blame polygamy citing your baseless reason. I have seen many who are happily married in Polygamous relation than being single and being a victim of evil eyes of this modern I'll mannered society.

People are not openly going for Polygamy, coz in countries like India people be it mens side or women's side, feel what others will say, what society will say, what my neighbours will say etc etc. Hence men go for hidden secret polygamy marriage rather than openly performing in public and looking after everyone well. If they perform it hidden without others notice then surely they can't provide equal justice, but when truth falls out all the relations get spoiled and land into divorce.

If women and her family or the society happily agrees heartily like we find in Middle East Islamic culture, then one will not witness of hidden secret marriages and no question of injustice

@ I am for Polygamy, as there is no wrong if all parties agree. I am happy for it rather than going for prostitution.

By Polygamy atleast I can take care of the female and be a support to her, but what we get in Prostitution, only few minutes of pleasure and a life long guilt of sin and shame in front of people and moreover in front of Lord.

    Laughable & stupid.

Dis-respect to womanhood, no one on earth can substitute wives importance & role in any noble family.

A colorful concoction through a brazen mix of politics & religion.

Will wait for more of such entertainment.

Feel very sorry for those women who might not have the prowess to fully satisfy the voracious sexual needs of their husbands.

It comes in their own mouth that the first one is Wife and all the rest are substitutes to prostitutes. What more is left to treat equally anymore ?? I pity on all those children born to second third or fourth …of their wives.

well said.. The one who really lovers his wife, will be happy with just one wife however she looks.

Those filled with lust will never be content with 2, 3, 4, 10 whatever and still go to those special places... so the point is love or lust.
