'Govt to provide kerosene oil to all country boat fishermen'

Mangaluru, Oct 20: “Karnataka state government has ordered to provide kerosene oil to country boat fishermen which will put an end to their crisis. The state government has decided this in order to find a permanent solution of kerosene oil crisis faced by these fishermen. All party delegation will meet union minister Dharmendra Pradhan in coming days and raise the issue,” said UT Khader, state minister for Food and Civil supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.

He was addressing a press meet at Taluk Panchayat office here on Thursday October 20.

“To put an end to scarcity of kerosene oil, all party delegation comprising of MPs of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada, along with Oscar Fernandes and union minister Sadananda Gowda will meet union minister and demand to provide sufficient kerosene oil to country boat fishermen. State government is providing 300 liters of kerosene per month to 914 country boat fishermen.”

When asked about Ibrahim Kodijal's statements favouring polygamy, Khader said, “What is wrong in it? There are certain rules. There are religious leaders, Khazi, Ulemas, Islamic scholars and experts on Shariyat law and it should be discussed with them. It should not be discussed on streets. Uniform Civil Code is against the minorities and later it will target Dalits and other minority communities,”

Speaking about a few private retailers distributing fake PDS coupons, Khader said, “Taking this issue seriously, ministry is collecting the report. Stringent action will be taken against those retailers and government is also thinking to withdraw the licenses of these private retailers.”

Speaking about government stance on observing the Tippu Jayanthi and some organizations opposing it, he said, “The government will observe the Jayanthi. Like the way government is observing Guru Narayana Jayanthi, Valmiki Jayanthi and Kanaka Jayanthi, we will also observe the Tippu Jayanthi. People who do not know about the history are opposing this. No one is greater than the government. Government will not fear from the opposition. Negative and positive could be found in all kings.”
