Beltangady, Oct 21: Reports received from Kolpedabailu of Maladi village in the taluk said that a person launched murderous attack on his wife on Wednesday and then committed suicide on Thursday October 20 evening by consuming insecticide. It is said that the couple had differences over family issues since long.

Shaji (44) was living with his wife, Moli, in a rented house at Kolpedabailu. There were long-standing issues on which the two did not agree, and as usual, they fought on the night of Wednesday. Shaji, who was intoxicated, got wild, hurled choicest abuses at his wife, and then reportedly stabbed her with a tailoring scissor nearby,  injuring her badly in the bargain.

Moli later filed complaint in Punjalkatte police station, saying that she was a victim of lethal attack by her husband.

On Thursday morning, the police registered case against Shaji. They also did spot inspection and inquest. Moli stands admitted into a private hospital at Mangaluru.

After the case was registered, Shaji did not receive calls made by his wife and other relatives on his cell phone. It is said that he committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance on Thursday morning. His uncle, Johnson, grew suspicious at the fact that Shaji was not answering telephonic calls. He visited Shaji's home and found that Shaji had ended life by consuming some insecticide. In his complaint made to Punjalkatte police, Johnson said that he has some doubts over Shaji's death.

Some claim that Moli had illicit relationship with someone, and this was the contentious issue between her and her husband. On Wednesday too the couple fought over this matter, reports said.

Police have been investigating the case from all the angles.
