Dolphy Vas elected honorary president of KCO Abu Dhabi


Abu Dhabi, Oct 24: Popular and dynamic community leader Dolphy Vas has been elected as the new Honorary President of Konkani Cultural Organization (KCO), for the year 2016– 2017.

The election was held during the 22nd Annual General meeting of KCO, the premier Konkani organization of Abu Dhabi.

Dolphy Vas, a charismatic personality of Abu Dhabi, was elected as the honorary president for the 4th time. He has contributed immensely for the growth of KCO for the past 19 years that he has been with the organization. His steadfast commitment, coupled with his capable leadership qualities and rich experience will surely help boost KCO’s popularity and meet its challenging ventures and social commitments in the coming year. He is known for his amiable attitude and superb organizational skills not only within KCO but also with St Joseph’s Cathedral, Abu Dhabi.

Claudia Lydia Lobo was elected as honourary general secretary and Valerian Dalmeida was elected honourary treasurer respectively. Both Claudia and Valerian are enthusiastic and dedicated members of KCO.They have held posts within KCO in the past.

Valerian Dalmeida has earlier held positions of Hon President, Hon Secretary, Hon Auditor, Hon Trust Advisor and was on the Advisory Committee. He will continue to hold the position of Trust Advisor along with his new responsibility as Hon. Treasurer. Claudia has been elected to the position of Secretary for the 3rd time. This portrays their selfless service. It is because of their multitalented personalities and their willingness to serve community, that they were elected to these responsible positions.

They along with the other office bearers and members, will be ably supporting Dolphy and working for the success of KCO activities.

The other office bearers inducted to the present committee are:

Hon. Vice President : Franklin D Cunha
Hon. Asst. Gen. Secretary : Valerian Fernandes
Hon. Entertainment Secretary : Gerald D Mello
Hon: Sports Secretary : Sandhya Vas
Hon. Auditor : Richard Castelino
Hon. Media Coordinator : Inez D’Cunha

Hon. Advisers : Leo Rodrigues, Michael D Silva and Bennett D Mello.

The outgoing Hon. President Leo Rodrigues thanked the members for their support and urged them to extend the same support and cooperation to the new President.

KCO has been growing in popularity and has become well known both in the UAE as well as in India for its benevolent work in helping the needy and deserving students.

They have initiated several scholarships through Samanvaya of Mangaluru and have also been helping scores of people suffering with critical illness. Recognizing the significance of certain NGO activities in Mangaluru, they have come out with a plan to support such organizations.KCO is also involved in various social and cultural activities in Abu Dhabi. KCO has managed to garner funds through their entertainment events with the help of benefactors and sponsors to carry out their charitable initiatives.

The induction of Dolphy Vas will add new vigor to the vibrant organization and bolster their efforts in working selflessly towards the downtrodden and needy people in the society, especially in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. The unity and dedication of its members in this regard is praise worthy.
