Shivamogga, Oct 24: A constable who had sent messages through WhatsApp and Facebook asking fellow police personnel to take mass casual leave on November 14, stands dismissed. The constable, frustrated at repeated promises and dual stands taken by the government on the issue of hiking the pay of police personnel, had given call for mass leave through the above messages.

D Y Kiran Kumar, constable attached to Shikaripur town police station in the district, was dismissed by district superintendent of police (SP), Abhinav Khare. Kumar was fed up with the unending process of meeting promise of pay hike made by the government long back. With the aim of protesting against this delay, he had spread message urging people in the department to take mass leave.

However, it is said that there is heartburn and unhappiness within the department about this harsh step taken by the SP. It is generally felt that sending these messages is not a matter of major misconduct to attract punitive action of such a scale.

However, the SP justified his action by saying that mass leave by police create law and order problem, and that all the police personnel are being educated against inciting fellow police to avail mass leave. Those who overlook this instruction will face the same fate as that of Kiran Kumar, he added.
