Mangaluru, Oct 25: BJP state co-spokesperson, Sulochana G K Bhat, came down heavily on the statement made by interim president of Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee, Kodijal Ibrahim, that polygyny is necessitated to fulfill sexual desires of men and that men are allowed to marry any number of times to satiate their hunger for sex. "This is a matter of disgrace. He has insulted the women folk. He has to tender apology for nurturing these thoughts and coming out in the open with them," she said.

Addressing a press conference held in the office of Dakshina Kannada district unit of BJP here on Monday October 24, Sulochana pointed out that according to Kodijal, women are just objects that are meant to meet the sexual desires of women. "By branding women as an entity which is devoid of emotions, and their own independent personality, he has utterly insulted the women community as a whole," she stated.

Sulochana said that a large number of Muslim women and children are going through hell everyday because of the prevalence of triple talaq system. "The experiences of Saira Banu, Afteen Rehman from Jaipur and Parsia Bagwan from Pune bring out the pathetic condition of women divorced by the triple talaq system. All of them have approached courts for redressal of their grievances. Seven different women's organizations from the country have voluntarily joined hands with this case. This brings into the open the gravity of this tradition," she explained. She also urged people to answer 16 questions posed by National Law Commission on this issue.

The BJP leader wondered about the fact that no Congress leaders have so far criticized Kodijal even though he made these derogatory statements by sitting in Congress office. "This projects Congress way of functioning. Congress veteran leader, Janardhana Poojary, has brought several pro-women revolutionary initiatives into practice. I urge him to condemn statements like the above made by Congress leaders and give them sane advice," Sulochana stated.

BJP Dakshina Kannada district president, Sanjeeeva Matandoor, district BJP Women's Morcha president, Puja Pai, office bearers, Prabhamalini, Dhanyavati, Manjula, BJP district spokespersons, Vikas Puttur and Jitendra Kottary were among those who were present at the press conference.
