Udupi, Oct 25: The general sessions of the taluk panchayat here, which met on Monday, October 24, unanimously decided to dissolve Shiriyara gram panchayat.

During the session, which was presided over by the president Nalini Pradeep,  zilla panchayat member Pratap Hegde raised the topic. He noted that Shiriyara gram panchayat had not been convening general sessions, and it had not been choosing beneficiaries for various government schemes. The panchayat had neither prepared an action plan nor using grants for development works. He added that the panchayat has not been issuing no objection certificates for new houses also. He, therefore, urged for dissolving the panchayat and appointing an administrative officer in its place.

Local taluk panchayat member, Nirmala Shetty, Gundu Shetty, Bhujanga Shetty and several other members strongly supported this proposal. The executive officer of taluk panchayat, Sheshappa, informed that officials led by zilla panchayat chief executive officer had visited Shiriyara gram panchayat on October 7 and had given the deadline of 15 days for a convening meeting. The panchayat development officer, who was asked to submit a report of the meeting, has reported two days back that meeting as sought was never convened, he explained.

Pratap Hegde demanded the dissolution of the gram panchayat that has failed to comply with procedures and directions. President, Nalini Pradeep Rao, said that the decision to dissolve Shiriyara gram panchayat would be forwarded to zilla panchayat for further action.
