Mangaluru, Oct 25: In recognition of their dedicated service to society in the fields of education and social work, director of Aloysius Institute of Management and Information Technology and former rector of St Aloysius Institutions F. Denzil Lobo, former rector of Aloysius Institutions late Fr Ronnie Prabhu SJ (Posthumously), executive director of city based NGO Centre for Integrated Learning Sachitha Nandagopal and Nonagenarian Joe Gonsalves were conferred with the `Outstanding Community Leaders of Mangalore’ Award by Mangaluru bishop Dr. Aloysius Paul D’Souza at a glittering function at Fathima Retreat House in the city on Saturday, October 22.

The award is constituted by International Institute for Public Policy (IIPP) established by NRI of Mangaluru origin and philanthropist couple Max and Jessie Rasquinha, who have settled in Houston/Dallas, Texas, USA.

“He who wishes to secure the good of others has already secured his own” is a saying that may be aptly attributed to many a dignitary of Mangaluru, for even from a distance one can observe, year after year, their dedicated service to the community. One can witness, moreover, their charity, generosity and nobility, animated by an attitude of selfless and joyful service. It is but proper that the community expresses its gratitude for all they have done for society by conferring on them timely awards, remarked Max Rasquinha.

“We have in our list several such leaders who deserve to be recognized and honoured. They are the prospective candidates for the award of recognition. But for practical reasons, we can select only a few each year to be the recipients of our award from the International Institute of Public Policy. Such timely recognitions are considered essential in order to encourage others to emulate their example and be motivated to render vibrant service to society”. Rasquinha added.

All the dignitaries that are dedicating their talents and efforts for our Community and our Society are always been noted and admired for future recognitions. Watching the greatness in others is a virtue of greatness in ourselves, said Max E Rasquinha.

This coveted recognition has been conferred in the past years to Bishop of Mangaluru Aloysius D'Souza, eminent singer and composer Wilfy Rebimbus, Former Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, Founder of Daijiworld Media Walter Nandalike, Msgr Fred Pereira, Social Work Educationist and activist Dr Olinda Pereira are among those who have received the `Outstanding Community Leaders’ award in the past.

‘I Will Cry Tomorrow’ released

The glittering evening attended by a host of dignitaries, featured melodious performance by the troupe dedicated to late Wilfy Rebimbus, dance sequences by Thunder Guys among others. The highlight of the evening was a mesmerising rendering of the song “I have a dream” by Fr Denzil Lobo.

Max and Jessie Rasquinha are keen followers of all the developments taking place in their beloved home town of Mangaluru.
