Doha: GWA celebrates World Goa Day with fun and frolic

Doha, Oct 25: Goan Welfare Association (GWA), Qatar celebrated the ‘World Goa day-2016’ with lots of fun and frolic on Friday October 21 at Mercure Grand Hotel.

The program began at 12.30 PM with fiery numbers by DJ Glorio Fernandes and sizzling dynamic ace compere Mahesh Prabhu setting the floor on fire.

GWA Executive Committee members along with Vivian D'Souza, president of Konkani Speaking Community (KSC), Prakash Noronha, president of Mangalorean Cricket Club (MCC), Aloysius D'Souza, vice president of Mangalorean Cultural Association (MCA) were escorted on the stage.

GWA president Simon D’Silva, delivered the key note address and highlighted the significance of ‘World Goa Day’ celebration.

Lots of spot games for kids and adults were conducted and winners were given away beautiful gifts. The pool side cool breeze and stage decoration with Goan replica sculptures added flavors to the program. The stage decoration was set by Godfrey and Effey Noronha.

The cultural program commenced with live performances by Sonia Prabhu, Perpetual Pereira, Natcey Barretto, Vincy D'Costa and Figo Rodrigues. Agnelo Rodrigues (AGGIE) and Glorio Fernandes supported the singers with live music.

Gulf Voice of Mangalore Qatar finalists-Carol D'Souza and Clement Fernandes rendered Konkani numbers on the occasion. It was a complete blend of Mangalore and Goan tradition where both regional artists showcased their talents and paid tribute to mother tongue Konkani.

The mimicry artist Amresh Kamat entertained the audience with his talent.

Tiny tots of GWA performed the dance on ‘Molbailo Dou’. The dance troupe comprised Patricia Fernandes, Gianna Noronha, Dave Ferrao, Ean Noronha, Amber Fernandes, Rihana Fernandes, Meagan Prabhu and Shaun Prabhu.

Danica Rodrigues and Caley Fernandes rendered Portuguese fisher folk dance ‘Vodekara Vodekara’.

Then again Carol D'Souza and Clement Fernandes performed duet number ‘Ye Chedwa Tuzo Mog Haven Kela’, for which Shawn Fernandes and Elena Noronha choreographed dance.

Afterwards Tanya and Joaquim Rodrigues put steps for love song ‘Rajan and Prema’ while ‘Contrad Sasnacho’ - a song dance by Celsa and Allan D'Souza. Snasloy D’Silva, Natasha Fernandes, Errol Pereira and Chynara Rodrigues put the steps to peppy song ‘Juliana’.

Simon D'Silva, Gina Noronha, Olga and Edgar Fernandes set the stage on fire with ‘Osoch Fottotai’. Seema and Cajie Rodrigues performed on Portuguese song ‘Corridinho’.

Gasdy and Merwyn Ferrao performed on ‘Forsa Goa’- Goa's football team anthem.

‘Nacho ia Kumpasar’ title song was well performed by Sean Fernandes and Gina Noronha.

The fashion show ended the cultural programme. Errol, Chynara, Snasloy Elena, Shawn, Natasha, Sean and Gina walked on the ramp wearing Goan traditional attire.

The cultural day concluded with traditional dinner and open dance performance on the floor.
