Mangaluru: Let Ivan become Hindu to hold Deepavali fest at Kadri temple-VHP

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Oct 26: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) which jointly held a press conference with BJP, Bajrang Dal and ABVP on city here on Wednesday October 26, objected to the Deepavali festival celebration at Kadri Manjunatha Temple premises which MLC Ivan D’Souza has organised.

VHP district president Jagadish Shenava said “Ivan cannot participate in this programme as a Christian. If he wants to participate, he should convert and become a Hindu. We are idol worshippers which Muslims and Christians oppose. As such, no person who is not a Hindu can come and hold such a programme inside the temple premises. Let him hold the programme inside the Church premises or wherever he wants to, other than temple.“

MLC and Vidhana parishad chief whip, Ivan D'Souza on October 23 had said that he will attend the Deepavali festival along with people of various faith, on Kadri Manjunatha Temple premises, on Saturday, October 29.

Ivan had also revealed that district in-charge minister B Ramanath Rai will inaugurate this occasion by distributing 5 kg rice bags to people. On this occasion, 1000 rice bags and 400 free spectacles will be handed out to the poor, Ivan had said while giving details of the programme.

Before Shenava spoke, M B Puranik the state president of VHP said “We do not have any problem with the proposed programme. But a Christian person holding the programme inside the temple premises is objectionable. State High Court in its recent order relating Mahalingeshwara temple in Puttur, had said that then deputy commissioner A B Ibrahim’s name should be taken out from the invitation, him being a Muslim. So a Christian cannot hold such a programme here. If Ramanatha Rai holds this programme being a Hindu, we do not mind. Ivan himself holding such a programme outside the temple premises is also not a problem for us. But he as a Christian should refrain from holding the proposed programme. “

“Government, departments, ministries can claim that they are custodians of temples. But they are not owners of temples. Only Lord is the owner of the temple. This government and its leaders have become notorious for creating problems in society. We have already submitted petitions to deputy commissioner and police commissioner, not to allow Ivan D’Souza to hold the proposed programme. We will not allow it to happen.” Puranik added.

“People with political motives, should not hold functions in the name of communal harmony. Such thing has never happened at Kadri temple and now Ivan wants to start it. We are not against communal harmony. We appreciate RSS going to Infant Jesus Shrine and Infant Jesus priests going to Sangh Niketana. These things are done with mutual respect and with invitation. Ivan has not been invited to hold such programme. Why he should distribute rice and other items?“ Puranik questioned.

Sharan Pumpwell, Harish Poonja, Gopal Kuthar, Bhujanga Kulal were present in the press meet among others.

"A storm in a Tea cup" is the best way to describe the attitude of a very small group of misguided people. Diwali is the festival of lights to commemorate the victory of good over evil, Ivan is only attending the celebrations and there is no need "convert" to Hinduism to join the celebrations.

The other important point is he is not the one performing the pooja, neither is he replacing the temple priests. What is wrong in that? Why are these handful of misinformed protesting...perhaps they have nothing better to do.

Guys, all these politicians are super crooks and try gaining mileage in the name of religion may it be Congress or BJP, etc. They waste public money to promote their parties this way instead of working towards any development. Are we fools taking a stand for their stupidity? Christian study at Hindu institutions and vice-versa, do you mean they change their religion? Moreover, Hindus have outnumbered Christians and Muslims working abroad are they to be converted for that? What is all this started about being Christian, Hindu, Muslim, etc? We mustn't support parties that uses religion as their propaganda. Remember, all of us have contributed towards our country's growth. Jai Hind.

Who is anybody to object for doing good in any place? God has no religion. Why does the Sangh Parivar think temples are places of Hindu Gods? They may be places of Hindu worship but there is only one God we all worship. He can be worshiped in any place and the poor could be helped from any religious place since all are Children of God. They first divided people on religion and now they have decided to create strife in the name of God. It looks Sangh Parivar does not beleive either in religion or God.Let us not allow them to make mockery of God and religion. Let is invite not only Christians but Muslims as well and celebrate our oneness with God and become lights of God - deepavali

I.J. Shet, who told Ivan was going to perform Pooja in Temple ? Who told he is going to celebrate Diwali inside the temple ? Is there any problem in sharing the festive joy with Hindus by people of other religion ? Couple of years back in Bahrain, well known Arab persons were present inside the church attending full Eucharistic celebration. Number of Hindu people in Bahrain visit the church and pray inside the church. We welcome people from every community to our church. Read the news properly and then comment. Don't be a 'bakra' to evil politicians who knows if they do not put division among us, they can not win the elections. Many Hindus are working in Muslim countries. Can VHP call them back and find them job in India ? When they themselves are jobless and living on bread thrown by their masters, how they can help others.

Having said that it would be better for Ivan to celebrate Deepavali in another place if the temple management is not happy with his presence inside the temple.
Just because people of other faiths can freely enter the Church does not automatically allow Non Hindus to enter certain temples.
The Parsis go to temples, mmosques, and churches. But do not allow Non Parsis to enter their Fire temples.

Hindu Scripture too Against idol worship..

The Upanishads are considered sacred scriptures by the Hindus.

The following verses from the Upanishads refer to the Concept of God:

    "Ekam evadvitiyam"
"He is One only without a second."
    [Chandogya Upanishad 6:2:1]1

"Na casya kascij janita na cadhipah."
"Of Him there are neither parents nor lord."
    [Svetasvatara Upanishad 6:9]2

    "Na tasya pratima asti"
"There is no likeness of Him."
    [Svetasvatara Upanishad 4:19]3

The following verses from the Upanishad allude to the inability of man to imagine God in a particular form:

"Na samdrse tisthati rupam asya, na caksusa pasyati kas canainam."

"His form is not to be seen no one sees Him with the eye."

We won't mind if christians organise deepavali festival in all churches with great fan fare. If intention is good we won't mind. Here things are different. All doing for political stunt.

You mean his father's name Kumar...!!
Here father to parent religion and not son.
If he needs let Ivan change name to hindu name as done by Late Indira Gandhi to get political mileage.

Puranik is terrorist, this is India, and every citizen has right to celebrate any festival, either Deepavali, Ramadan or Christmas. How Puranik say that Ivan is not allowed to enter the temple. Temple is belongs to mankind and it is not VHP's property. Arrest coward Puranik and tingoo shenava for infusing communal hatred in public.

What happened to the great universal ideal of the Sanathana dharma "Ekam sat bahuda vadanti vipram", Truth is only one, the wise call it by different names (or the wise identify it differently)? The problem is the people who objent to the celebration are the ones who do not belong to the glorious sanatana dharma tradition.

Bullshit. These ppl are degrading the values of Hinduism itself. Hinduism stands for "Vasudiava Kutumbakam". Which means entire world is one family.
