Karkala, Oct 27: In an accident which occurred at Nallur Gandhinagar here on Wednesday October 26, a cashew industrialist died in a macabre manner. The ill-fated victim has been identified as Madhava Prabhu (45) from Kabettu here.

Prabhu was moving in his Nano car at around 10 am through Nallur road on Wednesday morning to his cashew factory when a Fiat car which came from opposite direction hit his car. The car, after hitting the Nano, shoved it for about six feet from the road. The front portion of Nano car was completely smashed in this accident.

The Fiat car was moving towards Udupi from the direction of Dharmasthala. This car too came to a stop after turning to the reverse direction due to the accident in the middle of the road. Its front portion also turned into a mass of mangled steel.

Madhava Prabhu had suffered severe fracture of his legs and heavy bleeding. With the help of passersby and some locals, he was taken to Pratibha Hospital in the town. Afte providing preliminary treatment there, Prabhu was being taken to a private hospital at Mangaluru for advanced care, when he breathed his last.

The driver of Fiat car, Krishnaraj P H from Dharmasthala, who has been accused of over speeding and reckless driving, too was injured in the accident. He was admitted into a private hospital. A case stands registered against him in the rural police station here.

Unscientific culvert

The stretch of the road between Bajagoli and Hosmar on which this accident occurred falls under the jurisdiciton of public works department (PWD). A culvert has been constructed below this particular spot, and the road therefore is a little elevated from the road level. For vehicles coming from the direction of Hosmar it feels like a sudden upsurge at the spot as a result of which the drivers tend to lose sense of direction. Under such circumstances, any vehicles coming form opposite direction can pose risk of accident. A few accidents because of faulty elevation of road have happened in this area in the past, and some lives were also lost. Tragically, no lessons have been learnt, and one more life was lost.

Madhava Prabhu was known from altruism and responding to social causes. Bajagoli Gayatri Prabhu, a social activists, informed that Prabhu used to identify students from poor families and extend financial assistance to them for continuing their education.

Very sad .May his Soul rest in peace. When one sees the cars ,clearly make out the fiat car had hit Nano with a high Speed .Am sure not any car mark but Drivers fault. At the same time can see roads repair Ends are not united but left open.inbetween see like a hallow space. There is not much to say about it, when Govt, closes the eye and take the contractor to Task for not completing the work in a good manner.Only vehicle owners have to pay with their life or citizens.sad.

Front portion of the any vehicle should be very strong to withstand accident. Instead of giving importance for looks, give importance for front framework.
Even if it collides with truck it should not mangle. Good quality hardened steal with heat treatment should be used.

@Yogi- you see Prabhu was following road rules politely. Someone came and killed him. If his vehicle was strong he would have been saved. I mean why not Nano car comes with strong body. Tata need 50% margin and used only low quality gi sheets?

Possibly now that Ratan Tata being at the helm of affairs will bade TATA to Nano. It might be hurting his sentiments as it is bringing ''misfortune'' to the group and trying to malign the century-old-reputation.

The "unscientific elevation " as it is termed , doesnt look to have much elevation as per the photoes given . But even so its the duty of a safe driver to drive on his side of road only . In india since there is not much training for drivers in this matter they drive as if entire road width belongs to them especially at turn areas and result in accidents . The fault is more from the driver itself rather than the road elevation . SUPPOSE UR DRIVING ON A HILL AREA , JUST BECAUSE U HAVE A STEEP SLOPE DOESNT MEAN U DRIVE ON THE CENTER OF ROAD WHEN U DONT SEE THE ROAD AHEAD . U NEED TO DRIVE IN A SAFE MANNER . THATS THE KEY POINT HERE .

    Dear Nithya,

I can gauge your sentiments. No point feeling helpless since this is not the solution. You got to get your act together if you have the zeal. Here's how if you have the grit, determination and will power to put this to rest - once and for all ... Address / handover this application to a concerned local corporator or some renowned Tehsildar etc of your area after obtaining signatures of all those within your locality - be it shop owners, hoteliers, educational institution heads, lay people and every nook and corner ... gather as much signature as possible. Remember, the more the signatures, the more the weightage and chances of your case getting strong. Make a copy of this and handover one to the police station - just in case ... and try to publish this in the print media and email / handover personally one to the electronic media houses. IT WILL TAKE TIME.. YOU NEED TO BE VIGOROUS to achieve your goal.

very unfortunate and such a gentleman lost life for somebody's mistake. Bloody these authorities will never woke up. I literally pray god to pick any closed ones of these officers , authorities and make them realize how you feel when our loved ones are paid because of all these road issues. So many deaths. As some one mentioned , saga continues and nobody knows what's the target set by RTO or these authorities to take it seriously and fix these road issues.
