Udupi: Congress firmly entrenched in coastal districts - Moily

Udupi, Oct 27: Former state chief minister and union minister, M Veerappa Moily, said that the Narendra Modi-led central government has failed miserably in all fronts. "The state government, under the leadership of chief minister, Siddaramaiah, has been providing good administration. For the coming assembly election, we can safely assume that Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district, which had remained strong fortresses of the congress, will prove that the party has deep-rooted support here," he stated.

He was addressing a meeting of block Congress presidents and office bearers held at the district Congress office at Brahmagiri here on Wednesday October 26.

"Our state is leading others as far was implementation of Swacch Bharat in industries and other such schemes are concerned. The twin-districts had remained bastions of the Congress in the past. Because of our own mistakes, we lost that position. We should not lose heart just because our party was defeated here and there. There have been many instances in which the party had recovered from such debacles and emerged stronger with renewed vigour. In the coming assembly election, we will prove once again that Dakshina Kannada and Udupi remain in the stronghold of our party," Moily stated.

In a diatribe launched against the union government, Moily claimed that Modi is merely a good orator. "We should realize that delivering speeches alone cannot win elections for him. Under him, the government has miserably failed and employment guarantee scheme has faced reverses," he claimed. He expressed his intention to build the party again into a strong entity as per the wishes of party activists.

Rajya Sabha member, Oscar Fernandes, said that the party is faced with a need to choose a new leader to the post of district president, as current president and Byndoor MLA, Gopal Poojary, intends to devote more time for his constituency. He asked Moily to suggest a replacement for Gopal Poojary and send the recommendation to Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee after discussing the matter and getting advice from party leaders.

District in-charge minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, party leaders, Gopal Bhandary, M A Gafoor, Veronica Karnelio and many others were present.

Oscar fernandes and veerappa moily are some of those politicians who have been rejected by the people of the coastal districts. Moily ran away from his karkala constituency and settled in bangalore and fighting elections elsewhere. The people of coastal districts voted for congress for decades but what they got is nagarjuna, yettinahole project etc

I do feel that these gentlemen dont have future in the coastal districts and the people will reject them again

BJP is failed to deliver promises- that is a reality. However, congress is not gaining. The talk is just self consoling, far from reality.

    1. Modi is good orator and captures voters imagination. This is a strong point of BJP.
    2. Hindutva agenda of RSS is getting strong acceptance by people around. This is another positive thing for BJP.
    3. BJP is very strong in digital/visual media and also has RSS volunteers to work for it. This is the third positive thing for BJP.

Congress do not have counter strategy, both nationally and locally.

The picture what BJP shows is very attractive. But, very dangerous to India's future, that has to go togethor with diversity, peace and development.
Next generation will pay for the mistakes of current generation. Exactly like people tolerated congress since some decades back.

Congress is changed and changing for better that is positive sign. But, with the burden of negativity which is already there, the changes do not resonate clearly with voters.
Congress had to improvise in many fronts to gain the confidence of the voters yet again. These self consoling talks wont do much in that respect.

Who allowed this gentleman to these 2 districts. That's the problem. one side we scribe why this yethinahole project, it will screw our districts, Mangalore will face water crisis.... on the other side these evils who created this problem are garlanded and welcomed. Very very unfortunate. If this guy was chased away from airport itself, next time he will think when he creates such blunders... unfortunate ... very very unfortunate.
