Mangaluru: After opposition by Hindu outfits, Ivan changes venue for Diwali celebration

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (JS)

Mangaluru, Oct 27: After strong opposition by some of the pro-Hindu outfits, MLC Ivan D’Souza has changed the venue of ‘Souhardha Deepawali’ organized by him.

Addressing the media persons here at his office in MCC on Thursday October 27, Ivan said “Along with my friends, I had organised a programme in Kadri temple on the eve of Deepawali earlier. When I had organized Iftar many of my Hindu friends had suggested that we should celebrate all festivals. Thus I had formed a committee of 50 members which includes people from all religion. Amrith Kadri is one of the members of that committee. He had suggested that it is good to celebrate Deepawali in Kadri temple's Rajangana.”

“I agreed to it and got all the permissions from the concerned authorities. I just wanted to celebrate the feast with all the people and there was no other intention in my mind. We had organized various competitions on the Deepawali theme. Rice and spectacles distribution were part of the programme. I am a devotee of Kadri temple. When I became the chief whip, I had visited Kadri temple first. No one is above God. I did not have anything other than this in mind.” Ivan added.

Lashing out at state president of VHP, MB Puranik, Ivan said, “He has worked in Christian institute as a teacher in Shirva and he has to tell me how it hurts the Hindu religious sentiments?”

“I will not celebrate the feast at Kadri temple if it is hurting the sentiments of a single person. They want to create some problem by using this and I will not give any scope for this. Thus I have convinced my friends and we would conduct this programme in Gorakshanatha Hall in Kadri on Saturday, October 29 a 10.00 am.” Ivan said.

On being asked whether his decision to change the venue came due to fear, Ivan said, “This is a good programme. We are celebrating a festival and I do not want to get my ego into it. Being the representative of government I have my responsibilities. My intention is clear. So I do not want to give any chance for someone to make wrong propaganda against me.”

    Dear Arthur,
ivan was elected by the people. He was nominated to the rajya sabha by chief minister siddaramaiah because of the proximity they had. There is one similarity between ivan and siddaramaiah. Both are expelled from JD(S)

I know ivan very well. He has not won a political election except an election decades back to the mandal banchayat. He entered the rajya sabha the only way he can (by nomination)

Ivan doesnt represent people, neither muslims nor chiristians nor hindus

Let him celebrate diwali elwhere and not in temple, church, or masjid.

My humble advise for him is he has to go back to mudarangadi where he was born and brought up and do some social work as get elected atleast for gram panchayat.

    Basavanna,

You are mostly right except few things...

Ivan was nominated to Legislative Council...not RS,,, perhaps Siddu and he are in same boat...

I told him(through Kadrimai) to open a 'Gau Shala' at a place called 'Pelatta Katte'...a place between Mudarangady and Belman, near Jantra...what could be best social service than this?...Bejaimai will take this up with Ivan on my behalf...give him some time my friend...

If I remember correctly his wife Dr Kavita is a Mogaveer/Hindu...MB Puranik perhaps does not know about this...if I meet him, I will tell him...

Ivan contested MLA election as JD candidate against Vasanth Salian in mid 90s in Kaup and got about 12000 votes, Vasanth won election perhaps with 16,000 votes...during this election Mattar Ratnakar Hegde(now Udupi BJP President) and Ravi Hegde of Padubidri even they were with JDS canvassed against him(Ivan)...

Also Ivan contested last MLA election in 2013 from Mangalore and lost against Yogis Bhat of MLC...

Basavanna,,, Wins and Defeats are common in election politics...you never know don't get surprised if he contests from Mangalore MP seat and wins...or contests from Kaup and wins...

I am not his supporter....but problem is BJP candidates contesting against him may be worse than him...

    ...KM...???

All the low caste and common people would not have been educated at all but for the work of the Christian missionaries educational institutions. Goes to prove "upakaarena neechanaam apakaaraahi jaayate, payah paanam bhujangaanaam kevalam vishawardhanam" (help or support to evil or wicked persons will result in harm or treachery, By drinking milk only the poison increases in a snake). about your comment on petrol price and diesel price i can understand your concerns because you are used to congis vote bank appeasement politics, where they give you 100rs and loot in crores after getting elected, and compromise national interest.
About inflation and dal price check your facts, it was before because two successive drought years, but check the recent CPI(Consumer price index),inflation has drastically come down.

True secular state is one where citizen is more important than religion. There exists different religions due to the fact that people have different sets beliefs values and notions. It is better for a politician to be away from religious indulgence r make religion purely personal affair. Human values should be encouraged without being indulging in symbolic rituals.Hindu Muslim or christian cannot be united on the basis of religion because of the simple fact that Christianity believes in trinity which is opposed by Islam which beleievs in one god whereas Hindus believe in many Gods. But on the basis of humanity everybody is same and coexistence is a must. Christian grows flowers Muslim sells in the market and Hindu buys it for pooja . This humanity hindidoesnot object Muslim that he is nonbeliever or vice versa

Very bad decision, Ivan. Who are they to dictate? It is not their temple. The only way to handle them should have been to go ahead with the programme with people of goodwill and tell the fanatics that their will does not run everywhere. We would have been with you. From now on this particular poly-tician will celebrate all festivals by calling paid media attention. He will claim every good work happened in DK as his own! Final aim is to grab MP or MLA ticket but if he stands then for sure congress is defeated. Educated people can see through his publicity stunts. As a politician he has every right to aspire for bigger role but not playing crooked politics. Awareness about Ivanji's past dirty politics is enough to loose credibility in him as a honest leader. I n my friends vote for bjp if ivanji contests from congress for sure.
