Udupi, Oct 28: “Street vendors have become a headache in Udupi,” said Subramanya Nagara ward councillor Yuvaraj, during a general body meeting of Udupi City Municipal Council(CMC) on Friday, October 28 at Sathyamurthi auditorium.
Yuvaraj initiated the discussion by mentioning the problems of street vendors in Udupi city.
“Their carts are littered with filth which causes difficulties for vehicles. As per rules, these carts should not be stopped here and there. Police, council members and even the commissioner has warned them but they keep doing the same. I requested the president and the commissioner to take appropriate action with the help of police and public.” he added.
Replying to Yuvaraj, Commissioner said, “We have already identified the prime zones in the city and will show them suitable places for their business. We warned them several times about not selling fruits on streets. They are not heeding to our warning because some organizations are supporting them.” He also assured the member that the issue will be resolved with the help of police and public.
A clear dispute was visible among the members of ruling and opposition party regarding the privatization of district maternity and children hospital Udupi.
Opposition members questioned the president and said, “Has the state government sent any notice to city municipality about the privatization of district hospital?”
The dispute was also evident about the tender process of ‘Vishweshwaryya trade market’.
During the question-answer session, Yashpal Suvarna mentioned the poor condition of Ajjarakadu park. He demanded renovation of the park.
Chandra Nayak from Gopalkrishna ward raised the drainage problem in his ward. Commissioner assured to resolve the problem as soon as possible.
Shantharam Salonkar from Kasturba ward demanded to widen the road near MGM College. Kalmady ward member Narayan Kundar spoke about the garbage issue in his ward. Women Councillors of several wards spoke about drinking water problems in their wards during the meeting.
