Udupi: Armed Police Security for Shri Puttige Swamiji

Udupi, Jan 4: Police sources here have confirmed that armed security is being provided to  Shri Sugunendra Tirtha Shripada of Shri Puttige Math of Udupi, who is scheduled to assume the biennial Paryaya duties shortly.

The sources said that since there was resentment about the Puttige Swamiji's ascending the seat from within the other Maths and also there was a physical threat to him, the police department has provided the gunman security to him.

It is not known as to who the threat has been received from. But the police are taking no chances.

The sources also said that the protection has been provided from the time the Swamiji solemnly entered the city by a formal 'Pura Pravesham'. Wherever he moves around the security will accompany him. Whenever he goes around outside the Udupi district, the respective district police will provide the security cover. His movements will be videographed also. The security will continue to be provided until after the Paryaya event due soon, the sources further said.
