Mangalore: Assn Stages Protest Against Attack on Christians

Mangalore Jan 4: A 'darna' (protest) was staged in front of the deputy commissioner’s office by the Karnataka Missions Network (KMN) on Thursday, Jan 3 demanding that the Deputy Commissioner (DC) take note of the attacks on Christians and prayer halls all over.
 
The aim of the protest was for the authorities concerned to take action on the perpetuators of the atrocities taking place on the Christian community in the region.  And also take adequate measures to provide security to the victims and safeguard their interest.

Particularly with regard to the attack on the End Times Harvesters of India church, functioning at Alfa centre Kankanady, on December 23, the protesters in a memorandum submitted to the DC said that planned and organized attacks are taking place in churches across the districts in the past few years.
 
The memorandum further states that the miscreants not only damaged the church property but also indulged into attacking the church members and children. Therefore, the protesters urged the DC to take remedial measures by  providing compensation to the church.

The KMN lamented the fact that though the instances of planned attacks on churches have been increasing over the years and they have even filed cases in this regard to the police from time-to-time after the attack, no action was taken.
 
The KMN in the memorandum decried "On the contrary, the perpetrators seem to be having their own way of committing atrocities against the peace-loving Christians...."
 
The protesters also deplored the police inaction in the past cases and alleged that there have been  disheartening instances of the police telling the church leaders that they should cease their church activities. "Instead of punishing the miscreants, the police are siding with them," it rued.
