Mangaluru, Oct 29: Under the leadership of Chief whip of legislative council, Ivan D'souza ‘Sauharda Deepavali’ was celebrated here at Gorakshana Hall Kadri on Saturday October 29.

Ivan D'souza in his welcome address said, “Deepavali is a festival of lights. It is a festival for all Indians. I am happy to celebrate this festival by getting people from all religions together. Let this festival bring more joy and happiness in your lives.”

Addressing the gathering, Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo said, “Deepavali is the culture of our nation. Let this festival of lights light your lives with happiness and prosperity. We celebrate Deepavali in different ways. We should celebrate this festival by way of helping the needy and marginalized. This is the real way of celebrating the festival. This festival should promote harmony and peace in society. It is the need of the hour that we all unite for good cause.”

“All religions give us message of harmony and peace. There are different religions but they are all different ways to reach god. So we should respect all the religions and celebrate festivals in unity. I respect the Hindu religion because of its tolerance. It has helped other religions also grow in this country. Ours is a country which has unity in diversity. Today because of simple reasons, relations are spoilt. Let’s all live with unity and brotherhood. I wish happy Deepawali to all.” Lobo added.

Various competitions including Goodu Deepa competition were held. Rice and spectacle were distributed to many needy people.

Shri Sandeepnathji Maharaj and Shri Rajayogi Nirmalnathji Maharaj of Yogishwar math, Kadri, Moulana Zafar Sadiq Faizi, secretary of Imam council Karnataka, Fr Clifford Fernandes, Rev Isan Palan and others were present.

Thanks Ivan better late than never. I am happy evn if it was posturing cos i am sick of Congs celebration of only one festival with great enthusiasm. A.K Antonys message seems to be working.

A highly commendable effort by our MLC and MLA. Why should not all Indians celebrate all festivals in this manner instead of throwing stones and creating trouble? Hope this report finds a place in all national newspapers and electronic media and propagate the belief that all Indian festivals are of Indians and for Indians.

Glad to see that people of different religious faiths and political ideologies are united to celebrate the festival of light.

Any religious function that will create laughter and joy, all must get together to create a peaceful society without putting a compartment religious tag. Happy Deepavali to you all.

Dev Kumar, Mangalore/New Delhi - Modiji doesn't have a family to celebrate Diwali with, so he is making a political show by spending Diwali with the army personnel. This is called "absence of opportunity turned into a virtue". All politicians are trying their best to get political mileage by doing all these stunts.

As and when person themselves never change...like these events won't successful. First of all try to respect whatever religion prevails on this earth and endorse there way of worshipping. After all religion means just gurukuls/schools/madrases how to stay in society and spread love amongst people. Now a days it's hijacked by religious leaders for there own benefit and teaching different things...it's not benefit to anybody. From the beginning itself sanathan dharam given respect to all religions and bowed in front of it. It's taught from home itself by elders. People are visiting every religious places to seek blessings. It's one point today hindustanis are having good view about others inspite of so many backlash on community. We follow ahimsa..and trying our best to have good relationship with our enemies. World is changing. Other's are always having crooked things in there mind to destabilise our region. Do they succeed..in god's country..tried many times earlier also..!!

I would have appreciated if it was done in the spirit to get united, regarless of any caste, creed or religion. But this ois nly for pure political gain for their own benefit in the name of "getting united". Had they visited to some Martyrs home and celebrated with them the festive time would have been appreciated or with people who are into special needs.

One may object to use of certain premises but on any Festival celebration, no one has patent rights!
First understand the national anthem, to understand constitution may be too far, to remove the confusion in thinking clearly.
You can not FORCE or abate division, YET SAY WE ARE NATIONALIST!
This Accusations are grossly out of fear for loosing votes.

This is indeed a great and fine move on the part of all concerned to have united celebrations. I must compliment the two politicians for the move.

There is an old saying 'UNITED WE STAND - DIVIDED WE FALL'. It is good to see that people of all denominations have joined for 'saudarda deepavali'. Long live this CONCEPT AND CONGRATS TO THE ORGANIZERS OF THE EVENT.

I echo all the good wishes on the festival of lights, which is a feast of love and happiness, and extend to all people, irrespective of their religious affinity, a very happy and prosperous Deepavali. I do hope that Indians all over the world, irrespective of their religion, celebrate this festival and that people of all countries join them in the celebrations, just as Indians (including Hindus) celebrate Christian holy days such as Christmas, Easter and Ramadhan, the holy days of the two most populous religions. Let that not be by lip service alone!

At least these people should learn something from shri modiji spending his time with army personnels during deepavali. It's continuing from last three years. As the intention is pure even showers of blessings from god on modiji is outpour.
