Kundapur, Oct 31: PWD officials accompanied by police sub-inspector conducted raids at Halnadu sand mining premises in the city and ordered the suspension of the sand mining process there.

Tender process to extract sand at Halnadu was completed and those who were awarded the tender had begun sand mining. They should have piled the sand at the stockyard in Balkooru, but there were complaints from the locals that after sand mining on Monday, sand is being transported outside. Therefore PWD engineer, Chandrashekar and Kundapur SI, Nasir Hussain conducted inspection. They ordered not to conduct mining till Tuesday evening, November 1.

The officials later inspected the sand mining areas at Kandlooru, Balkooru and Gulvadi. People had complained that contrary to the conditions of the tender, the contractors had made no arrangements to stock sand. Engineer Chandrashekar said that he has asked the contractors to arrange for such facilities.
