Bengaluru,  Nov 1: A real estate businessman of  Andhra Pradesh origin operating in the city was shot at and killed on the night of Sunday October 30. The murder took place at Hanumayya Layout at Sanjaynagar here.

The victim was Surendra Kumar Paruchuri (53). He is said to be close to a minister.Unknown killers fired six rounds at him at around 10 pm on Sunday and fled in a Bajaj Pulsar motor bike. Because everyone was busy bursting crackers, the gunshots did not attract attention of anyone. The people realized what had happened after Surendra collapsed to the ground.

As there were no street lights and the atmosphere was filled with smoke from crackers, no one could have a clear look at the two killers except that they were riding a Bajaj Pulsar motor bike.

Policemen believe this to be a murder because of financial dispute. Family members of Surendra including his brother, Capt Choudhary, have expressed  suspicion about involvement of brothers and friends of Kapil Saraswat, who used to work in the real estate office of Surendra in the past. As per reports, Kapil from Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, who worked as personal secretary of Surendra, was looked after like a trusted lieutenant by Surendra and family. However, it is said that Kapil misused the trust and siphoned off funds to the tune of three crore rupees after which Surendra filed a case against Kapil and removed him from the job. It is said that Kapil had misused the money invested by Surendra in Yamuna National Highway Project in Uttar Pradesh. A case about this incident was filed in a court in Uttar Pradesh and the lower court had sentenced him. When he approached the high court against this verdict, it ordered him to pay fine of Rs 43 lac. As he was unable to put together so much money, Kapil continued to be in jail. Kapil's brothers had called Surendra and warned him to withdraw the case failing which he was threatened with murder.

The body was handed over to the family after postmortem was conducted at M S Ramaiah Hospital.

A complaint about the murder was registered in Sanjaynagar police station. Policemen have formed three teams for investigating the case and nabbing the culprits. The police personnel have put together CCTV footage from the routes covered by the killers.
