Mangaluru: Man posing as customer decamps with gold ornaments

Mangaluru, Nov 1: An unidentified man posing as customer visited Sri Vijayalaxmi Jewellers located in Pavanashram building at GHS Cross Road in the city and took away 72 grams of gold ornaments. Value of stolen items has been estimated to be two lac rupees.

The shop in question is owned by Bhupati. During the stock checking, there was a difference of 72 grams of gold. Questioning of the shop employees failed to elicit any useful information. Thereafter, CCTV footage was checked, which revealed the theft. The footage dated October 28 showed an unidentified man stretching his hand into the table drawer in the shop and taking away 72 grams of gold jewellery. On that occasion, Bhupati was away, and his wife, G Vijaya, was present.

The shop owner said in his complaint filed in Bunder station that the unidentified person acted like being interested in buying jewelley, and after diverting attention of the shop attendants, stole the ornaments by cheating them. Police have registered a case.

    Every time these show owners buys stolen jewellery too from the thieves but now one such shop owner pays it back!!!! When our rural police wanted to implement the ID requirement when they buy jewellery from customers they opposed it vehemently. Yes we know most of them don’t have ID but at least they can verify some other documents as a record???
