Dharwad: Box of crackers catches fire - boy suffocates to death

Dharwad, Nov 1: A young boy died after crackers kept in a box inside  a room of his home caught fire accidentally. This tragic incident happened at Sadhunavar Estate here on the evening of Monday, October 31.

The victim happens to be Hemant M Batakurki (7).  He was playing inside a room where a box of firecrackers was kept. Hemant had locked the bolt of the door from inside for the fear that he would be scolded if elders came to know that he was burning crackers. He had held a sparkler in  his hand and ignited it. Sparks from the sparkler set the box of crackers on fire. The firecrackers started exploding. The boy, overwhelmed by the unbearable sound and thick smoke, tried to open the door but could not. He therefore collapsed and suffocated to death.

On the basis of a complaint filed by father of the boy, Maruti Batakurki, a case was registered in satellite police station here.
