S P Balasubrahmanyam chosen for big honour at IFFI


Bengaluru, Nov 2 (DHNS): Popular singer S P Balasubrahmanyam has been nominated for a prestigious award to be presented at the International Film Festival of India later this month.

He will be honoured with the Centenary Award for Indian Film Personality of the Year at the 47th edition of the festival, beginning November 20 in Goa.

Music composer Ilaiyaraja and actor Rajinikanth are among the earlier recipients of the award.
Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu shared details about the festival with the media here.

“Balasubrahmanyam is being honoured for his talent. It's an award not a reward,” Naidu said. Over five decades, he has rendered more than 40,000 songs in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi. He has a melodious voice and a hard-working nature, the minister said.
S Korean auteur

Naidu also announced South Korean director Im Kwon-taek would be feted at the IFFI for his contribution to world cinema.

Kwon-taek will be conferred the Lifetime Achievement Award and presented a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh.
