Mangalore: Two Sri Lankans Closely Linked with LTTE Arrested

Mangalore, Jan 5: In a major operation, police team headed by inspectors Jayanth Shetty and Umesh Shet, has arrested two Sri Lanka-based persons who are closely linked with LTTE on Saturday, January 5.

The arrested persons have been identified as Baala Ruban alias Ruban alias Kadiravelu Gunaselvan (22) of north Sri Lanka and Nallatambi Jayasheelan alias Sheelan (25) of north Jafna.

Acting upon a sure tip-off, the police conducted a raid in a lodge here and arrested the accused. The police have also seized duplicate credit cards, duplicate passports and gold worth Rs 3 lac.

The arrested have confessed that they purchased gold ornaments at Karkal and Mangalore. Primary investigations revealed that the accused were collecting funds for LTTE through fake credit cards.

On introspection it has been found that their SIM cards contained phone numbers of various persons scattered in many parts of the world. Hence, the police suspected the involvement of international hands behind this racket.

The police have filed a case against them in connection to illegal migration and use of fake credit cards.

Baala Ruban, one of the arrested, had been in Chennai in June 2006 and Sheelan had been India in January 2007. They were stealing information from the shops which make business by using credit cards. They were using software absorbing devices for stealing information.

Meanwhile, the police cautioned shop keepers about such persons who buy articles through fake credit cards. ASI Narayan Maniyani, Anand, Chandrashekhar, Sunil Kumar, Rajendra Prasad and others of SP’s special squad were part of this operation.
