Bantwal, Nov 3: Jatti Subraya Bhat (79), a retired teacher, who was famously known with the name, 'Jatti Mastru', and was a popular figure because of his proficiency in rendering Bhajans duly immersed in devotion, lost his life in an accident which happened at Kanyana on Tuesday November 1.

Bhat was walking by the side of the road near Bharat Sevashram at Kanyana near Vittal, when an auto-rickshaw coming from behind knocked him down. He suffered severe head injuries in the accident and  passed away later, although effort to save him was made. After falling down and getting injured, he was admitted into hospital with the help of an ambulance. However, he did not respond to treatments.

 He is survived by wife and a son. A case about the accident was filed in Vittal police station.

'Jatti Mastru', who hailed from Jatti from Bayaru village,  had been residing at Parakkaje in Kanyana village since the last three decades. He had started living in Bharat Sevashram Kanyana. He had worked as teacher for long at the lower primary school, Peruvadi. He used to take part in Bhajan workshops where he trained interested people in singing Bhajans with matching dance steps. He had worked as office bearer of three different Bhajan Mandirs and secretary and president of Palladakody Sriram Bajana Mandir. He had served as priest of Kuttithadka Lord Vishnumurthy Bhajana Mandir too. Bhat had been felicitated for his unique achievements by various organizations and institutions including Kannada Sahitya Parishat.
