Bengaluru: Deshpande claims Karnataka still tops in attracting investments

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Nov 3: State industries minister, R V Deshpande, has claimed that Karnataka stands at the top among states attracting investments in the country, although it has been ranked at No. 13 among the states in the list of 'ease of doing business', which assesses congenial environment for setting up industries.

"As per the report of the commerce and industries ministry of the central government, a sum of Rs 1,09,773 crore has been invested in the state between January and July, 2016. During this period, Andhra Pradesh got an investment of Rs 10,848 crore, while Telangana got Rs 16,330 crore, although these two states hold No.1 positions in the above list. At the same time, Gujarat, which is listed at No. 3, could attract investment of Rs 39,750 crore," he explained.

He was speaking to media persons about the list of states prepared by World Bank and department of industrial policy and promotion at the centre on the basis of assessment of prevalence of investment-friendly environment, on Wednesday. He cited technical reasons as responsible for the sliding of Karnataka's position in the list from No. 9 to 13.
